Im new !!

Hi! Ive just found this site and soooo excited to find all this info. Me , DH , DD4 and DD8months are in the planning stages of moving to canada!!! We would love to be in southern ontario. I am an Occupational Therapist and have so far applied to sit my examination to become registered in canada. I am due to sit this in july 2009. I can become registered anytime from December as you dont need to pass the exam before staring just be registered to sit next available one.
My question is what next?? i have been looking on the net for jobs but im not sure how long the process takes re immigration etc. Do i apply now assuming it will take until next year to get a visa or does it all work quicker when you have a job offer?? Are employers willing to wait that long??
I just need to know what to do next as i am eager to apply for my visa but need that all important job offer!!
Hope all this makes sense!!
:o

hello and welcome.

You will find this forum helpful, informative and addictive. Sometimes things transgress as people, myself included, go off on a slant. However we are all here to help and offer opinions, views and give links etc.

As Judy points out to others the WIKI is the best place to start.

Welcome again and good luck in your future.

Hello, jolobro, and welcome to the BE forum.

It helps to be aware of the regions of Canada in which specific skills are in demand. Occupational Therapists are listed amongst the Occupations under Pressure in British Columbia and Alberta, but not in Ontario as far as I can tell.

My question is what next??
Get a job offer.

or does it all work quicker when you have a job offer??
In your case I don't think it'll be a question of getting in more quickly if you have a job offer. I think it'll be a question of only being able to get in if you have a job offer. No job offer, no visa, if you see my point.

Are employers willing to wait that long??
In some regions in which they are very short staffed they're willing to wait. It depends how desperate they are for people with your skills and experience.

It makes perfect sense. You've nailed it.

The MedHunters website is advertising jobs for occupational therapists even as we speak. Once you're on the Home Page, click on Allied Health Jobs. Then click on Rehabilitation / Therapy. I see the following jobs listed for Canada:
  • British Columbia: 9

  • Alberta: 5

  • Newfoundland and Labrador: 3

  • Ontario: 4

  • Saskatchewan: 5

As JET747 said, read the Wiki section of this website. If you haven't found it yet, there's a link in my signature, below.

Hope that helps.
