In Calgary junior high covers grades 7 - 9 (children aged roughly 12 - 14). Senior high covers grades 10 - 12 (children aged approximately 15 - 17). It is more common for junior high and senior high programs to be offered in separate schools. Queen Elizabeth School also houses the School of Alberta Ballet, which serves students aged 10 to 17. In addition to Storybook Theatre, which Steve mentioned, I have heard good things about Calgary Young People's Theatre. |
Re: If you are coming to Calgary ...
There are several unsolved homicides but they are all gang-related. Gangs here are "Asian" (politically correct term) which means Vietnamese or Chinese. They have lots of money and are big into retaliation and intimidation but they don't seem especially interested in the general population - just each other. It is ironic to hear members from the Gang Unit talking about how the Hell's Angels are "better" and more law-abiding than the other gangs.
Otherwise, there is some vandalism and b&e's that are probably in every city. One of the main reasons - which is probably the same all over the world, is kids growing up too fast, with no supervision and no limits/boundaries. Calgary in particular is a well-to-do city and folks who aren't so well off want to get a bit of the gold for themselves. I don't think we're worse than most places in Canada. As far as attractions for teens, I found a FEW web sites for you to look at. When they get to school they'll have access to more info as well. I hope there's something here for you. http://www.cyo.ab.ca/ http://www.youthsingers.org/ http://www.mtroyal.ab.ca/children.shtml http://www.corpsbara.com/youth.php http://www.cypt.ca/ http://www.storybooktheatre.org/ http://www.wppuppet.com/ http://www.cbe.ab.ca/partners/partne...e_partners.asp http://corporate.calgarystampede.com...YouthPrograms/ http://www.umanitoba.ca/cm/vol7/no18/calgary.html http://www.calgaryschild.com/compone...cal/Itemid,21/ http://www.calgary.net/info.cfm http://www.calgaryscience.ca/ http://www.iballet.com/iballetex.htm http://www.albertaballet.com/users/folder.asp http://www.childfriendly.ca/involve/...al%20draft.pdf http://www.tourismcalgary.com/ http://www.ymcacalgary.org/ http://www.calgarychildfest.org/ http://calgarypolice.ca/ http://calgary.ca/
