IEC Working Holiday Vias + Remote UK Work

I am moving to Toronto on 1st May 2022 on the IEC Working Holiday Visa.

I will still be employed by my UK employer and working remote, full time, during my time in Canada.

I was wondering if this would impact my approval for a Work Permit at the border as I won't be working for a Canadian company?

Also, does anyone know how this would work in terms of taxes?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, welcome to BE.

No problem at all to work for a company outside of Canada on an IEC.

You'll be tax resident in Canada, so will pay taxes there. If you search the forum you'll find info on how to set up as self employed in Canada, you'll then invoice your UK company.

HTH and good luck.

Sorry to jump on this but if my spouse and I are both employed by UK companies with no presence in Canada, can we live in Canada but still work remotely for these companies?

Might be putting in an IEC application tomorrow if that's the case!

Yep, no problem at all.

You may have left it a bit late for this year, there are only 800 or so visas left for this year now, so do get a wiggle on and make sure you apply asap (preferably tonight, don't leave it until tomorrow) if you do want to go ahead with an IEC.

Good luck.
