Even Brown has stopped claiming that ID cards will reduce crime because it's incredibly obvious that they will merely create new victimless crimes. If you can't see the difference between a driving license and a huge database that's intended to govern your entire life, there's really no hope of explaining to you why they're such a bad idea. But I'll try one more time: imagine Brown gets his ID cards and huge database that allows him to track everyone in the country, determine their ancestry from their DNA, and allow or deny them healthcare, travel, work, sales or purchases, etc. Imagine that he's such an angel that he never abuses that power. Now imagine that the BNP win the next election. |

Now imagine that the BNP win the next election. OK good rant but you don't get it. ID is just one element, "taking back the streets" is a metaphor for what I'm saying - the Great British Public needs to step up and take over their communities and sweep the mass of scum from the streets. End the fear and knifings and swarmings. Stop the excuses, stop the petty whining about "privacy" and get with a program that creates change. Everyone "do the right thing". But they/you won't. You like your comfortable blanket of excuses. It's pathetic. Such a once great nation brought to its knees by apathy and me-me-me. So back to my last point, in Canada you have ID. Suck it up, princess. There's no dark empire of public housing with rent a mobs bashing old ladies and swarming shopkeepers, and putting the fear of god into old folks. No chanting, balaclava wearing happy slapping teen swarm. Isolated events sure, but it's not out of control. There's some degree of civility left. Uh, I guess we're just 15 years behind the UK in that respect. The lack of hiding places for the underclass scum is refreshing (I exclude the TO projects from this comment). R. |

Come to Canada and have an ID card in your wallet every day - yes, your driving licence.
In the UK ID cards would be mandatory. Only people who drive have driving licenses! Get it now? Try reading it over a few times slowly. |

No. The point is you're scared witless of accepting responsibility.
R. Please give me three reasons how an ID card would stop this behaviour? *waits with bated breath* |

Nice deflection! I left the UK for many of the same reasons you stated earlier.
Please give me three reasons how an ID card would stop this behaviour? Reduces anonymity in general social terms (increases accountability) Stop and search/on the spot fines made easier Next. R. |
