ICBC claims free discount & windshield

Anyone know if you file a claim for windshield damage with ICBC if you lose claims free discount?

Our windshield was busted today by a large rock, if we are going to lose the discount by filing a claim might just be better not to claim it and pay for it outright.

Ermmmm, this may sound like stating the bleeding obvious; but have you called/contacted ICBC & asked?

That's where I'd start, anyway...

I've had a replacement windshield every winter and never lost my ICBC no claims discount, but I claim via a third party insurer (Canadian Direct).

Happened after the auto plan broker places were closed, just figured I'd check here and see if anyone had experience.

This would be directly with ICBC as we don't use a 3rd party, oddly the 3rd party premiums were no lower for us, so we just stuck with ICBC.

I don't know if this is what you mean, but from the ICBC website:

http://www.icbc.com/autoplan/optiona...le.aspx?step=1

Comprehensive covers loss or damage to your vehicle from:

Theft and vandalism
Fire, earthquake, explosion
Falling or flying objects such as a rock or gravel hitting your windshield
Hitting a domestic or wild animal
Weather—lightning, windstorm, hail, rising water.

Comprehensive claims don't affect your discount level.

You don't have to file a claim for windshield damage, as far as I can see you just go to the Glass Express Shop. http://www.icbc.com/claims/Pages/claim-steps.aspx

Windshield claims don't affect claims history with ICBC. You pay the first $300 and they pay the rest. Any auto glass shop can do the work, you don't need to file a claim, just go into the shop.

Wufft!

I dunno about BC, but in Calgary a replacement windshield for my Acura was quoted at $200...

Hardly seems worth claiming!

That said, I've never bothered replacing a windscreen...i just live with the cracks/chips

My error. the deductible is $200.
Glass shops are quoting $400 to $700 if you pay yourself.
