They are a rip off but when the government has a monopoly they can pretty charge anything they want.

But if you wan't to drive, there isn't any other choice for basic coverage.

Never had an issue with ICBC. They've always paid out claims fairly quickly, and my premium had never varied by more than a couple of hundred dollars over 11 years. $1100 p/yr isn't exactly a bargain, but it's not too horrendous.

The rates they charge certainly do range pretty significant person to person.

GF has 15 years with ICBC, never had a claim, after the max discount, we pay 1,900 a year now. Went up with last renewal.

Does she not have a PWD? If so ICBC have a disability discount as well.

Only in BC does your number of years claim free driving increase for every year you have a BC driving licence, even for years you did not have a vehicle or insurance...

There should be better regulation over out-of-Province vehicles though. One of my neighbours has two cars. Both are on Alberta plates and him has his wife have Alberta licences. Neither vehicle ever goes out of BC and they are registered at his mother's house in Calgary.

One of my colleagues has lived in BC for 15 years and his truck is on Alberta plates. Same fiddle.

Also means they cross Port Mann and Golden Ears bridges for free.

Neither ICBC or RCMP are interested - I know this because one of our nosey neighbours hates them and has reported the neighbours to both.

As long as you don't want to travel beyond the middle of Surrey or past the airport (or along the north side of the Fraser except in the 'right' direction once a day).

If they are not moaning in BC about the rain its car insurance

Its called Bring Cash not British Columbia for a reason. Next they will be complaining about house prices in Vancouver or tolls on the bridges or ferry prices for those living on the island.

there's plenty of people in the LM who drive but don't have to. IT's their choice. My sympathy is limited.
