I will be resigning tomorrow
 

The time has come for me to give 5 weeks notice as I plan to leave at the end of next month.
I have to break the news to my boss tomorrow :ohmy:

I am a bit worried though, been with the Co. for almost 10yrs and luckily enough for me I do enjoy working there. It's going to be strange working the next 4 weeks knowing that I'm not going to be there in July. I had a meeting yesterday with some guys about an upcoming project that requires some overtime on July 15th, they asked if I could do it and I said yes but secretly I knew that I would be in Canada then :p
At least now I can start pushing all my work down the other end of the table.

How was it for you when you resigned? Were your work mates jealous of your plans to move to Canada or did they think you were nuts? Guess I'll find out tomorrow...

Oh I know how you feel, I will be resigning from my job in 2 weeks! We are already in Canada but I have stayed in this crappy job as my work permit was employer specific - now we have our visas, I can leave YIPPPPPEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
When we left England, I had been in my job for 9 years and OH for 21 years:eek: it was scary but we haven't regretted it at all.

No-one was particularly surprised, least of all my boss who had spent a spell in Canada himself. All wished me well.

It goes with out saying. Leave on good terms, no matter how happy you are to be going. You want these people to maybe give you a reference & you also never know when you might need them again.

I'd been tipped off about redundancies, so held back on handing in my notice.

Instead of working out 3mths notice I was asked to finish the next day and was given nice redundancy cheque :thumbsup:

It helped to kick start things for our move and provided me with far more free time to sort out all the logisitc of the move. Also gave me the chance to abandon work that I found dull and uninteresting :)

Everyone was quite shocked at me leaving, but happy and surprised to hear we were moving to Canada despite that fact I had been there 3 times in 4 years and went on and on about how good it was. Keeping the 'big secret' for nearly 2 years was quite tough going as I am a bit of a yap ;)

If I had £1 for every time someone said 'you're so brave' I'd be rich! Many people told us they wished they had the courage to do the same thing.

Good luck tomorrow. I am sure everyone will be very pleased for you. The next few weeks will fly by :D

When I took my last job on, I had already applied for PR to Canada, so I told my new employer at my interview, as I felt it only fair to let them know I'd be leaving after little over a year if things went OK.

It didn't seem to deter them, and they offered me the job. All the time I was there, I probably bored them silly with my progress reports re getting med requests, and selling the property etc .... yet the boss was still stymied when I eventually handed in my notice, even though I gave them over 2 months, when 6 weeks was all that was required!

"Oh!.... you really ARE going!" was his shocked response!! :eek: :rofl:

My boss at the time, who was a ping pom Pom, warned me that I was making a huge mistake. She had lived in Canada as well as Australia. I was just about to get promoted and Canada was in the dark ages, you will get shafted she said. I thought she was jealous. She was just right. :(

The sole person that knew of my plans was the finance director - luckily she was symapthetic to the position I was in :)

I picked up my visa on the Thursday and handed my notice in on the Friday!!!

I had to give 3 months notice back in Feb so I thought I might as well just do it, even though we haven't put the house up for sale yet. So, here I am currently on the 4 weeks leave at the end of my notice period, waiting to get outside to tidy the garden but it is STILL bloomin' raining.

Anyway, I had told my boss in confidence of my plans a while back so it was just a case of when. Also, you are in the unique situation where you are not leaving to go and work for a competitor, but you are seeking a new way of life, so it should be a little different. My boss was very supportive and understood why I was off and I had no problems at all on that front.

I guess even if you hate the job, you can tell them you are leaving to start a new life abroad, etc, rather that saying it was hell working there! As a result a reference shouldn't be haqrd to come by. A lot of colleagues were very supportive and understood why I was leaving.

I must say, it doesn't feel like I have left work though - just feels like I am on leave!

Know what you are going through, i have been with my employer for 23 years and was not looking forward to telling them but could not say anything until i was sure. The company has been going through bad times and we got rid of some people and then my boss told me i would be ok but my colleague would have to go if it didn't improve in a few weeks. At this point i couldn't hold back and had to tell all as there was no way i could let them get rid of someone else knowing that i would be off in the near future.

This proved to be easier than i thought and everyone was supportive although they would rather i had stayed. I leave on Friday and can keep the company car and phone until the day before we fly which is great.

Have never been unemployed before so it will be strange and maybe a little scary.

Well the deed is now done, I had a meeting this morning and explained our plans and he was very supportive, in fact he said I was a jammy git! :lol:

It is such a relief now that everyone knows, trouble is I am being bombarded with non stop questions about Canada now..never going to get any work done at this rate.

I think it helped that I was not leaving for another company, I did ask if I could remain employed but work from home (in BC) but he didn't go for it? can't think why ;)

What a weird feeling this is.

danny......believe me,i just done it as well....it is a bit rough,but its part of the steps for going to canada....then afterwards you realise this is AWESOME
