I stand corrected! Good Value

I had a little grumble about the choice at my local Safeways yesterday about the lack of choice. Well all I can say is I was wrong and that I must go to the smallest Safeway on the planet.

I just made my first visit to "The Real Canadian Store" and what a choice....... so much choice I came out of the place with a headache, the place is huge.

They even had live fish swimming around in tanks ..... so you cant get much fresher than that.

Oh and I did find my cod fillets.

Actually I tend to agree with your earlier point about lack of choice. Whenever I come back from my annual trip to the UK and go grocery shopping here I find it really boring in comparison. So little choice - yes I know it's all convenience foods, packaged and frozen, but it was so easy to go into the Asda or M&S and get a complete dinner - even frozen Yorkshires which actually tasted pretty good and was no effort! Even roaster potatoes, and some pretty exotic meat dishes all in ready for the oven or microwave!! And my gosh, the desserts, so yummy! Well, come to think of it maybe it's just as well we can't get all that or I'd be fat as a house.

Hi,

Surely the reality is that there are different choices than the Uk rather than lack of choice?

So, does nobody cook in the UK any more?

Do they just buy frozen meals and heat them up?

Frozen desserts and thaw them out?

No wonder some of you can't get used to Canadian food.

And frozen ready meals cost a fortune here too. Home cooked dinners is the way to go, I say, the way to go !!!!!

I don't find a lack of choice at all. But I remember having thoughts like that when we made our first few trips to the stores. Its just new and different at first, but you soon get into the flow!

When in Canada ..... be Canadian! :D yee-haw!!!! :p

...... or Chinese, in the case of the Real Canadian Superstore! ;)

I actually loved the Canadian Superstore - it reminded me so much of Asda it almost brought tears to my eyes!! ;)

Re: I stand corrected! Good Value

My experience would suggest that the choice in canada is more about a wider range covering a much bigger ethnic diversity..

The stores in the Uk are much more euro centric and have a bigger selection within a more limited range

Yes we do but it's more of a cash and carry for businesses, you can buy a costco card if you want, but there's only one in Edinburgh and it's a bit out the way. Not worth paying for the card to get in the store.

Oh no, Costcos in Edmonton are HUGE, don't worry. You most definitly will be able to puchase your next wife there and much more! ;)

I was getting the impression that the UK shops were really tiny....they aren't?

no not at all, very large, with loads of choice, i wasn't sure it butch was being sarcastic and panicked that they may be small over there, but then size issues have always have that effect on me.
thankfully sorted the avatar out, it was treble that size before, there i go again you see.

The Costco is much less Business orientated
Safeways is more upmarket than morrisons
COOP is a lot more up market than the UK version I was used to

They are more you're tesco\sainsbury's

To whet your appetite while you await your first visit to a real Canadian Costco you can browse their online store.

http://www.costco.ca/en-CA/Home.aspx

Note not all items on the web store are available in the actual stores and vice versa.

Enjoy
Steve

The only thing I have ordered from them was some HP printer ink which they don't carry in-store.

It arrived within a week and there were no shipping and handling charges. :)

Bit off topic, but....

Aren't HP printers the best? I love 'em! Just got my newest toy yesterday - the latest HP photosmart, it's fanbloodytastic! :D Been printing photo's like crazy to send me mum (she doesn't have a PC, they scare her too much..lol)

I'm really pleased with the one I have. I got it around Christmas time as a discontinued model at a great price. The only problem is its size, it takes up half my desk space. :D

I had an Epson for years before this one and was really, really pleased with it. In fact the only reason I got rid of it was I could no longer get the colour ink cartridge for it, damned thing still worked just great just no ink.

The new one has archival inks so the pics I print on HP paper are supposed to be good for 75 years or so. I know I won't be around to worry about them fading. ;)
