Default Hypothetical gift shed?

I'd like a bit of advice please.

We live on a gravel road about 2km from the lake.

The lake has a campground, with no facilities (shops etc) on it.

I was considering building (well not me personally building) some little cabin of sorts in our front yard (about an acre so not really a yard but you get me), and wanting to sell some lakey type gifts, etchings and such like.

Doesn't matter if its not a huge money spinner, just something i've always wanted to do was to have a craft shop (a decent one though, not selling paper doily wind chimes etc).

What would I have to do? I'm sure I can't just build a shed and sell shit, but would I have to get planning permission?, register a business?, get GST registered or whatever?

Any help much appreciated, and should this come to fruition, is there anyone out there that makes / paints / creates stuff that you'd like to sell on a sale or return basis??

Fink you Mrs Patterson

Thats also an option, along with firewood and a freezer with ice in it (which then gets into the realms of food so not sure).

Most go down with their RV's so spare tent pegs may not go down too well.

Talk to the municipality where you reside, ask them. You probably would need a business license and various inspection, but who knows.

Build a little shed with a sign, "Campground Registration Office", and take $20 off everyone heading up to the site.

But, I'm afraid I'm more with Oink on this one. If I were camping on a site with no shops, I'd be a bit annoyed if I walked 2km to the nearest shop and all they had was bloody dreamcatchers and etchings. In addition to the camping gas and kites, you also need to sell bug spray, crisps and toilet roll.

Get a Canadian Tire franchise and add a food section, then you'll have virtually everything needed for camping.

Now I can't help you with the shed thing - I think it's a FAB idea!!! I wouldn't worry about the camping supplies until you start getting asked for them, why spend cash on product you may not sell?

Anyhow, my friend (and why I haven't thought of this before I don't know) OWNS The Country Cupboard in town, she is about to do featured artists in one of her rooms. She also sells local artists stuff - do you see where I am going? Lets get together like we said (next week?) Go and see my friend and see if we can get something going there?

There is also a trade type paper which may come in useful to you, I have a hard copy in front of me which you can have but the website is WWW.countryregister.com/alberta

I'd love to sell some of my pics - though how relevant pics of things in/around NS/NB/PEI would be in AB I am not sure
