HSBC

In the introductory post it mentions that HSBC customers from the UK can open a Canadian HSBC bank account from the UK. However, when I contacted them today they stated that HSBC does not operate in Canada anymore.
Is there any method to open a Canadian bank account offshore from the UK?

Thanks in advance

HSBC Canada is long gone, it is now part of RBC. Opening a chequing account can only be done in branch. ScotiaBank offer an investment account to non residents from overseas. It will not build credit rating. However why not just open a CAD account at a UK bank and wire over the funds when ready?
You then have a wider choice and may want to choose a Credit Union. Banks have insurance of up to $100,000 on deposits per account holder, credit unions are member owned and have unlimited coverage underwritten by the province they are based in. They sometimes offer a $200 credit for new members too. CU don't have accounts for non residents.
