How much snow do you lot get?

I have been reading the threads for months and it seems you lot are in constant very cold temps and very deep snow:eek: how long does your winter last? and how cold does it get.

You'll have to be more specific Canada is a big country.

Canada is big, Very big. in fact its VERY VERY BIG

Did you have one particular lot of us lot in mind perhaps?

Im a bit east of Toronto...heres the view from my bedroom window yesterday....thats how much snow we have this year so far, although it melted a couple of times and started from scratch again a few times so far too.

I guess the "middle" would be Winnipeg or somewhere thereabouts. They probably dont have as much as it all gets blown away:p

Been quite mild here so far this year. The local resort reports only 4m of snow to date out of an average of 10m each season. However they did get about 0.8m over the past week so it is moving in the right direction.

We have also only had about 8 days with temperatures below -25C so far this year although we have only had two days where it got above zero since the middle of November.

The ski season at the local resort is mid November to mid May but here in the town we usually would only have snow on the ground for about 4 months.

The coldest I have experienced so far is -35C without wind chill, -60C with wind chill and the most snow over night about 0.5m.

In Regina Beach Saskatchewan, we had snow 1st November and regularly from that day, the worst weather being Wednesday whe we had a blizzard all day. The temperature has been as low as -30 but -52 with the windchill. It is only -5 now with snow all around, blue skies and a big warm sun, the dog and I took at long walk on the frozen lake, it was really envigorating and as long as you layer up your clothes it's great.

I think we have been lucky as we haven't had extremes of weather like other parts of Canada. I have been told the ice will start melting around the middle/end of March. It's not as freezing as Wales when it's the dampness that gets you.

Manitoba or the middle as you put it is actually pretty dry.:p

Winnipeg for example gets an average of 110.6cms (43.5") of snow per year.

Regina still sort of in the middle gets an average of 105.9cms (41.7") of snow per year.

Calgary a bit west of the middle gets an average of 126.7cms (49.9") of snow per year.

If you want to look at weather averages for most places in Canada have a poke around this website. http://climate.weatheroffice.ec.gc.c...s/index_e.html

As iaink says, it is a dry cold, completely different feeling. A couple of weeks ago I travelled from -20C at home to about -5C in Racine, WI and it felt much colder there.

Of course I'm not going to pretend that -35C is not cold, I certainly wouldn't want to try having a pee behind a bush at that temperature , but it is rare to get quite that low here.

I'm surprised to hear it is that much. We haven't had any really deep snow in Calgary since we arrived in 2005.
