I've been flying in and out of Halifax since 1970, both as a pilot and a passenger. I have experienced the occasional snow problem but it isn't a persistent thing. There were delays last Tuesday evening but it is not the usual state of affairs.

Oh yes we do. How could we forget? I always find it amazing how people can be so persistent in being right when they don't even live here. I can't imagine arguing with someone in Alberta about their rain or snow or sun or whatever
.. I don't live there, I wouldn't being to believe I know what their weather is like... for a start I hear their snow is different...

Two FB pages I've found very useful in Ontario also have pages for Nova Scotia.

They may be of interest.

I agree with what you feel but you can't change the facts. If you are happier, you won't complain as much and have a different perception. I've said it before and living in a place with open space, less pollution doesn't feel as grey as a busy city if you're not a city person.

It's fact that some places in the UK have the same amounts of sunshine and far less rain than Halifax. I'm very sorry but I can't change that, just like 1 + 1 = 2:sarcasm:. Ah why not make it 3:lol:

Just to add in my experience. We moved here in July & so far the weather has been amazing. It is so dramatic whatever it is doing compared to the wet blanket British weather. Yes it rains but it rarely seems to be that dull grey miserable type. We get more defined seasons so summer was really hot, I think we had 5 weeks of no rain & there was barely a day the temp. went below 30.

Winter has been milder than I was expecting and I was a bit disappointed that we didn't have a white christmas but when it snows it definitely lifts your mood (unless you are one of these crazy people that hates snow ;)), everything is just so pretty covered in it.

All in all I would say the weather here is a vast improvement to the UK.

.

I'm almost scared to write...but I agree! This winter is proving to be a lot better than others I have experienced...but maybe I'm just becoming acclimatized ? I have hated snow since my first Canadian winter, and I would agree that this country does nothing gently...it goes full throttle whether it's sun, rain, snow or wind!

I would say to whoever the hell is in Ireland and writing about it, that it is easy to look at figures and then make assumptions ...my family looked at those for two years on a daily basis before moving here...nothing makes a wind chill of -30 feel better or + 30 with raging humidity a few months later feel anything other than horrid:thumbdown:

I stil struggle with the halifax has more rainy days than London bit. I am wondering what the statistics consider a rainy day - if they are counting days when it snows or flurries and at the same time ignoring days in the UK where it rains lightly then that perhaps makes more sense.

Is it a British passport? We sent ours off in the mail to be renewed and it was back shockingly fast in like 3 weeks

No need to be scared:lol:. Look, I never wanted to offend anyone but there's no need to lie about the weather in Halifax. Yes, it all depends on the location in the city and where you exactly are but Halifax gets plenty of rain just like we do. If you look at all the weather stations in London vs all weather stations in Halifax (even city) Halifax has always had more rainy days. Funny enough my cousin has been sending me pics on WhatsApp and he said it's been wet/overcast a lot of the time this winter. People in parts of Devon seem to have really dry sunny weather this winter;). I don't mind the rain but Halifax is still wetter than many parts of the UK with a bit more sunshine than sunnier parts of the UK.

No, unfortunately it's Danish & he has to do it in person, the st. John date in feb is the nearest to us because for some reason they aren't doing Halifax this year :frown:

I think you are misunderstanding what everyone is saying. Yes it rains but the rain usually sticks to the seasons it's supposed to rain. We get nice long hot dry summers where you can plan to do outdoor activities with a high chance of it not being spoiled by rain or dreary weather. This is what the OP was more concerned over.

Yup, and no need to be condescending or suggest "we lie about it" either. No one is lying about the weather here, you know, those posters that live here that know first hand...

But again that's a myth. Every summer is different but Halifax on average has more rainy days than London in summer. Maybe not in 2016, as Halifax had a very dry summer and Yarmouth saw the driest summer on record but that's not the norm. I remember being in Kent or Jersey and we had glorious summers but also crap ones.

This is rather a medieval position, almost Trumpist. There's science these days, databases, shared resources, you don't have to go Florida to know that it's sunny there. I understand that the glow of happiness projected by people living in NS is like that seen in breakfast cereal adverts and that it repels raindrops; so much so that one can't tell it's raining but, still, if rain falls in the government's little cups, it's rainy.

Yep and I must note that no one can be in the same place at the same time. People living in Canada aren't in the UK either:lol:. And there are also live webcams these days and I can see it's pretty grey in Halifax but sunny enough in Plymouth:rofl:.
