How much to bring for starting out
 

Hi all

I know there has been several threads about this, but i wanted an estimated idea on this for me, so i know whether i have enough or need more?

Will £15.000 be enough? (which i think equates to approx $30.000CD)

I am single, do not eat a lot, as I am a very fussy eater (can survive on fish fingers and mash and/or cereals etc,)!!!
Will probably need to buy a decent car when i move over and rent a one bedroom apartment and get some furniture etc.

Can anyone advise on whether £15 grand will be enough for a single person or not. I know it is a case of "how long is a piece of string, but just out of curiosity.

If you have $30,000 and a job to go to and can limit yourself to some sort of sensible second hand car you should be away to the races.

However, do not have job as yet. Although have been advised by various hospitals that this should not be a problem once i have PR, as there are plenty administrative and medical secretary/transcriptionist jobs available for Permanent residents!

I will be looking at buying a decent second hand car, a ford or toyota or something, as i may need to commute? depending on where i get job and this will probably be the biggest expense, aside from renting an apartment and petrol etc

I still have approx a year or just over to go, if i get accepted on the CI stream in NS, so may be able to save another 3 grand before then, hopfully but not sure.

Thanks anyway sounds like i should be okay, depending on job and salary.

Hi

we are a family of 3 and after everything is paid i.e removals etc, until we sell our house we will only have £12000.

My OH has a job to go to but we will need to get a car, although just a sensible 1 at first.

If our house sells we will be ok straight away but I think it may be a wee struggle initially.

So compared to us I think your amount sounds fine.

Didn't see your other posts. It should be enough I reckon. Ford cars have a bad reputation over there and are cheaper.

emm I would say you would be fine with that amount

why do you think it will be another year or more?

i understand you already have your letter of support from the RDA? and you are about to send in your full PNP application to halifax? if so and things go well it could be only 6 to 8 months??

from what I can gather and this is if all your paperwork is in order

3 months at most for PNP from halifax and if you have everything ready and waiting then another 3 to 5 months from CIC London

emm I know of folk who have been processed this quick :thumbsup: so lets hope it applies to you and me!!!
just want to wish you huge luck as I know you are going on this great adventure alone

you are doing exactly what I would do( I am here with my husband but if I had been between husbands:lol: I would still have embarked on this adventure) and I would have the exact same panics and concerns but i would still do it
Go for it girl you only get one life!!!

let us know when you get your application sent off to halifax and get your AOR etc

Thanks Chumley, I will and i hope your application goes well too.

Am justing getting all paperwork together at moment, and am still scared silly, but i know deep down that i can do this, its just the thought of doing it that scares me. I have an overactive imagination and always imagine things to be worse than what they are.

Everyone on here and other expats i have met and the Novascotians i have met have all been very friendly and helpful, so i am sure things will work out. I just have to keep telling myself i can do this and keep going. :)
