How much

Hi all,
Im thinking of moving to Canada and done a 320 mile round trip to a seminar in Edinburgh last weekend only to have missed the lecture on Canada :o.

But i did manage to get quite a bit of info from the stalls there BUT there is only one thing I didnt find out is how much money do I need to have to get out there??

And how much would you personally think I would need to start a new life in Canada?? Im a crane driver by trade and I know there is work in Alberta.

Thanks all,
Andy

Re: How much

if you search some of the threads on here you will be able to read peoples experience regards how much cash.

If you mean how much do you need to show before they will let you in (ie to support yourself) there is info relating to this on the canadian immigration website (www.cic.gc.ca) but that it not nearly enough in real life. Also there are costs documented relating to fees for the application which should be on the cic website

It depends how you want to live, where you want to live and how many folks you are supporting.

If you have a read of stuff here, and if you have specific questions I am sure someone will chip in with a good tip.

I would say £40k would get you started and provide a small cushion for unexpected things and to factor in that you might take a while to find full employment

To get a job as a Crane Driver in Canada it is a very long process. Firstly you really do need a job offer. You Need to take your HGV again in canada, preferably Class 1. then you have to do a level B test which you can only take once you have a job offer. You can download a Commercial vehicle guide on ICBC.ca and do practice questions. You also have to take airbrakes as well.
You need to apply to a driving school for lessons in Canada once you have your hgv licence. There is normally a waiting list. hope this helps. Can tell you not to go over to Canada between December- beginning of February these are very quiet months for the Crane industry.
