how much?
hi the last time i visited uk was 18years ago,so i know a lot will have changed!! including the cost of eating/drinking/ travel and admission to entertainment.
this summer myself,wife and one 14yr old boy will be going back home to Dorset for 3 weeks. we are lucky we have a place to stay and even the lend of a mini van (people carrier i think!) ...but what about the rest???we will be sticking around the south west,then a mix of cooking some of our own food from the grocery and eating out ie pubs and the chippie.i dont know what fuel costs all i do know the vehicle we are borrowing is a fairly new Citron van. we will want to go on some days out ie to the beach, some stately homes/gardens also Bovington tank museum,and the odd steam engine/old machinery show. now i know nobody can come up with a exact price,but approx how much should i buget. the air fairs are already paid,so dont need to be included. cheers |

We moved to NS from Christchurch, Dorset nearly 2 years ago, its hard to give you an idea to be honest, it all depends on what you do, how expensive your food tastes are etc. To try and give some idea- Petrol/Gas, like the PP stated, budget around 1.30 ish a litre, the bonus you will notice is that you will seem to get places in much shorter distances, but the time will likely be the same with the traffic lol, especially the A31 to Bridport way on a sunday afternoon! Fish and Chips at our local one when we were back at Xmas, full fish and chips per person, approx £6/7. Pubs food can vary a lot, some are "gastro" type pubs where you will pay the same as a restaurant, others like franchise type names will often have early deals or 2 for 1 etc, would still prob budget at least £50 for 3 of you for a modest meal. Not sure whereabout you are staying in Dorset, but can let you know some names of really nice english pubs with great food! (I miss them!). The New Forest is lovely, we lived about 5 mins drive from here, its free and great if you like walking/cycling etc, lots of beautiful villages all through the Forest too(The White Buck at Burley does fab food!) Groceries I dont find too bad price wise, but I have been living here lol lots of good deals can be found. Hope this helps, really hard to put a figure on it, I would say for the 3 of you at least £100/150 per day, this would not be covering eating out every day and would depend on your entertainment activities, if you are doing more, may need to look nearer £200 per day to cover everything. :) |
