Re: How many times a year do you go back to the UK?
I go back next month for 4 weeks - it's my first trip back since moving here almost 2 years ago and I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone and celebrating my birthday and Christmas with them. All my family are in England and only my parents have been out here so far (18 months ago). My Canadian other half is coming over for 2 weeks to meet family and friends too. I'm getting really excited about going back, moreso than I expected to be
As for the next trip - I have no idea when that will be. Probably at least another couple of years away, as time off work and money make it unfeasible to go more often than that.

4 times in 46 years.
That's 4 times not 4 times a year.

According to my contract, I'm meant to go twice a year. In the past, the trips have coincided with half term (I have a son in the UK). I haven't been over for more than a year now. My son is now a seasoned pro at travelling by himself. I have been summoned to go in February, to remind my boss what I look like. That's OK. I don't pay for it.
The trips will become even less frequent in future, when my mum shuffles off.

every other year or so, did twice in 2007 due to a funeral. Like others, more vacation time and being in a better position money wise, could allow more trips. But manchester every other year is more than enough. I usually get homesick to get back to this side of the pond!
I do worry about aging parents and wonder what the future will bring. Deep down I think I know that I will move back. But who really knows.

Three times in the last 10 years of being here.
It does seem to get sadder coming back from the UK and leaving family each time. Still, we Skype every weekend for an hour or so.

Moved here July 2007, went back in July 2008. Hubby has been back a couple more times on business in London only so hasn't seen friends and family. Eldest daughter has been back twice.
Hoping for all of us to get back next summer
I would say do not go back within a couple of years. I was fine here for the first year, totally happy. Then after I returned I became very homesick.

I have been here 19 months and been back 6 times. I would be going again before Christmas but waiting for PPR so dont want to risk booking a flight and not been able to travel. Knowing my luck we wont get PPR until the new year and I will have missed out on my Christmas visit

Have been back once , for a friends wedding. We hadn't been here a year, it was too soon to go back really.
I have no desire to go back at all at the moment.

Re: How many times a year do you go back to the UK?
We've been back once in 5 years for a family birthday and to show off our new daughter I'd have liked to go back next year (I have a long shopping list...) but for the three of us flights alone would be $4K so we've decided to go to Disneyworld instead. We will have to go the following year as it's the inlaw's golden wedding - it's in August though - anyone got any suggestions on how to avoid Olympic ticket price hikes?
I still have fits of homesickness five years on - in fact it's probably worse now than it used to be. I often yearn for my daughter to be able to experience the cosy British childhood that I did with trips to museums in London and tea in John Lewis, daffodils in the spring, school uniform and the National Curriculum. Deep down though I know the benefits outweigh the disadvantages, hubby is happy here (far more than he was in the UK) and she'll never know any different so on those days I just have to have a melancholy moment, take a deep breath and get on with it!
Still miss grocery home delivery and UK TV though!!
