How long to stay in a job
Hello All,
Am new in Canada and recently got a job as an accountant in February but its a junior role. Am CPA holder (accounting).
I have been in my current role for 2 months but all I do is process invoices etc ( not complaining though). Am thinking of starting to look for jobs to get more responsibility and also more pay and opportunity to grow my career. My current place is a small accounting unit (4 of us and a manager) and I figured that even if I stayed for a very long time the manager has to leave for any of us to move up. Which is why am thinking of looking for Jobs externally.
How long is socially/ culturally acceptable before looking for another role. Will recruiters look at me unfavourable or think am not loyal. For background - in U.K. I a lot of short term contracts in the last couple of years.

hi. whereabouts are you? I would definitely start looking if I were you. it may take a while to moveand its easier to find a job when you have a job. You certainly should not wait until you are desperate to get out. any hiring manager looking for a cpa would understand your reasons for moving.

make sure you are able to justify short term contacts in your application.I too had some on the past to gain required experience for my designation (also CPA) and just explained it as such.

I can't comment about your particular industry, but I do the hiring at my company so somewhat relatable. In Toronto, I get approx. 100 applicants per position (that's low), and do tend to stay away from applicants that bounce around a lot in a short period.
If your previous experience was short term contracts, just make sure that is clear or if needs be, ditch the unimportant ones.
As you're a newbie to the country, I think a potential employer would be more understanding to your current situation. Just make sure the next job is a keeper

Never hurts to keep a look out for something better and apply when you see it.
