Re: How long should a "SWIFT" Transfer take?
Ours showed up in our account last night around 11pm - 24hours? Pretty good going. Ours was short of $161 so hubby not too impressed, i'm sure he'll get it sorted.
basically we were paid the amount in $cad when the amount should have been $us transferred to $cad - do you get what I mean?

Yeah, my experience is that SWIFT from HSBC to PC bank takes around five days, and someone sucks out a few dollars in fees along the way.
Needless to say, it doesn't take five days for the money to leave my account, where it's earning interest!

Can't tell you how long it will take as the bank should have sent it from the UK yesterday and DIDN'T send it

Re: How long should a "SWIFT" Transfer take?
My Dad is transfering some money to me with an international SWIFT bank to bank transfer.
Once hes initiated it, how long should it take for it to show up in my account?
Its been a couple of days already, which seems a bit on the long side to me in this computerised internet age, but I dont do this kind of thing often , so what do I know?
Cheers

I transfer money from the US to Canada (Chase to RBC) and the US to the UK (Chase to NatWest) ...takes between 24 and 48 hrs if sent before 2 pm EST.

Banking times.
CAIPS - Next business day (though you have to pay extra for CAIPS)
BACS/SWIFT - 4-5 working days, though can be through in as little as 2 days dependant on the banks involved and types of account.

I do transcribing work for a UK company. For the first little while I got paid by Swift transfers and it took about 5 days. Then this summer I did not get paid at all. I don't know what bank my employer was using, but somehow or other the money never left the bank - it was his bank's fault. Eventually I did get that payment but several others in New Zealand and Canada had the same problem. We are all getting paid by Paypal now because it was such a total hassle with the bank. You do have to wait for the money to be transferred into your account, but at least it works. The thing that was driving both my and my employer nuts was that the bank thing was not working at all.

Its seems you rather overestimate the efficiency of the system.
