how long does post take to get to uk
 

im waiting for my PR cards to arrive from canada, my canadian relative has posted them to me but the tracking information has said the same thing for ages, it is saying "GBLALA,International shipment has arrived in a foreign country". It arrive in the uk on 16th jan, do you think it is lost im so worried. Has anyone else had this happen to them.

Normal mail usually takes 3-5 work days, never more than 7-8. It might be worth looking into at this stage, especially if the package is already in the UK.

i phoned royal mail today and they said it maybe in the uk but its not been scanned and put into their system yet so there is nothing they can do until it has been. So im imagining it sat in a trolley somewhere at the airport waiting to be processed.

it was last scanned on 16th jan and all the tracking says is GBLALA,International shipment has arrived in a foreign country so im assuming its heathrow airport as thats where the post goes to the royal mail woman said..

Did you ask if you can trace it? There is no way it should be sitting in a cart at
LHR for more than 1 day?

I'd be inclined not to worry too much. Yet. The same thing happened when ours were posted over - the Canadian scanning system didn't seem to pick up their progress in the UK system, and they seemed to be stuck "in limbo" for a couple of weeks.

Never? I must be exceptional then! Yes, it usually takes a week but every so often something goes wrong and it can take longer - sometimes much longer.

Ok not "never" but I don't think I have ever had to wait longer than 10 days for something. I've even received items with 3days and sent to Canada within 2days. Normal mail.

I paid $35 to have my police checks sent to the UK for a friend to sign. They were sent the equivalent of recorded delivery (where she had to sign for them and I could track)

It took 7 weeks to get there... Unbelievable. The post here is a nightmare.

I sent my dad a present in December. It still hasn't got there yet.

I wouldn't worry too much yet. :)

Did you send the present by surface? Correct postage? I really don't see how those timescales are possible?

Never send anything you cant do without by Canada Post...

PR cards etc I would always pay the extra to courier.... FedEx or whatever (NOT PUROLATER, they are also Canada Post)

Canada post is mostly OK, considering the logisitics involved in a country this size, but I wouldnt trust the postal service with secure documents if there was an alternative.


Typical mail delivery CAnada to UK is 5-10 days for me, and surface parcels (cheapest for bulky items) can and often is months, perhaps due to consolodation. Air mail is a lot faster, but more expensive once you have a large packet.

A couple of years ago I sent my Mum some leather gloves for her Birthday in January, I sent them Airmail, they arrived in time for Easter...

My mum sent two parcels for the kids just before Christmas. They were posted together. One arrived within a week, the other took eight weeks :eek:

That sounds like a very long time to me. I'm amazed LHR could accumulate that sort of volume for your document to still be sitting in "a pile". I suppose with something like PR cards there's no way of checking if they've been pinched and someone else is using them. Mind you, what would someone else use them for? Ours haven't seen the outside of the safe since the day (ish) we received them!
