Chap loves swimming in the sea. I take him down there in the summer and let him run wild. He's knackered when all is said and done.

No outside, I don't think health regs would allow dogs inside. We take emma in, no one seems to care as she is more like a gerbal than a dog!
You often see dogs tied up outside the store while people pop in. Everyone seems okay with this from what i can tell.

I thought that may be the case certainly not allowed in coffee shops here but they are allowed in many pubs which is nice

That's not really how public transport works out here. People only use it if they're too poor or young to drive; or if the parking at their destination is extortionate (i.e. commuting downtown).

Errr, no. Some of us choose to live without a car. A lot of us, especially further in. That's why the Van car co-op is growing so fast.

The co-op is a rip-off. It's nearly always cheaper to rent and you get the car for the full day. They've obviously got some good hippy-marketing spin going on which is working well for them.

oh, you mean because they're a non-profit?
ACTUALLY, for longer trips the co=op recommends a rental, and they have an arrangement with one of the car rental agencies where co-op members get a discount.
And what Alan said. We ran the numbers...cheaper than owning.

Yes it is; but north americans love their cars. And Canadians aren't actually very green, they just do what they are told by the powers that be. Fortunately Vancouver is very easy on public transport and if you live downtown (or near it) then the whole of downtown is walkable (25 mins from end to end in either direction). I live downtown and have caught the bus maybe half a dozen times in the last year.

Not really. Canada isn't really very big on green issues; it's one of the most polluting countries in the world.
Metro Vancouver mayors recently voted not to increase transit funding that would have been necessary to improve public transport in the region. Instead they opted for a package that would maintain current service levels; i.e. inefficient and overcrowded. The good news is that the beaches in Kits have ample parking spots, even in the height of summer.
