How does self-employed compare to the UK?
I am currently running a marketing business in the UK. Am also in the process of closing it down ready for a move to Halifax, NS.
Just wondering if anyone else here has gone from being self-employed in the UK, to being self-employed in Canada? If so, how did you find it? My landing funds will not be too vast, meaning I'll have to find employment for a while to get the money flowing. But, my plans are to finally set up a business, probably marketing still, in NS. Just wondering how things compare? |

Broadly similar. Each province will have a few tax differences to get used to, and you'll have to consider zoning implications for where you hope to run your business too.

Just wondering how things compare? Also apply for a business number from Canada Revenue Agency, and register for HST if required ($30,000 threshold). Try this link, which I found useful http://www.halifax.ca/bizpal/ |

There's not too much of a difference between them.If you're using a business name other than your own you'll have to register it.

This management consulting lark is the bollox to get into. Just spout loads of crap that sounds catchy and watch the pennies roll in. At my last dept. they paid some twat $10k to come in and read a few poems for a couple of days, None of which he'd written.
