How did you get a job in Canada..?

Mostly it's IEC, they fit the CEC class so can apply online to register for EE and get accepted to make a profile, and have discovered despite scores for age, education etc, they might come out at 500 say...but as their jobs do not have LMIA's...cloth cap bob, who drives a truck on TWP and never entered secondary education but has that LMIA is coming out with much higher scores owing to the 600 boost, getting the ITA, while they sit in the pool.

You never know, it might get down as low as 500 later in the year when the pool is cleared a bit? I don't think it's likely, but there's a slim chance. And I think if there are people selected from the pool without a LMIA or PNP, it'll only happen through CEC rather than FSW personally.

It's helpful to have this discussion. Personally (and this could well just be me being naive) I didn't find any info on CIC website or other that made me fell that I needed to 100% have a job offer before applying. However it's obvious now that you need this for the points.
I wish the UK had this kind of immigration system. Would solve a lot of issues.
I'm just trying to figure out if I/we should be job hunting now and then beginning my application. Or risk it and start the application process. I can't see why any employer would wait months for someone.
I imagine each province differs. But Novia Scotia PNP program requires a job offer. So it's not like we could apply for that instead.
I don't want to sound like a dreamer, I am not. Just trying to figure out the best route for us.

As christmas said...your summer holiday this year is...Canada...hire a car, bring CV's...hit the bricks..both bring interview suits in your case...just in case
Doing it that way, to my thinking, shows an employer your serious and committed to a future here.
Canada is still very much a "face to face" culture, and while someone might kindly shake their head, they might in the next breath offer to phone bert their second cousin twice removed and tell them about these "good people" he has met just looking for a start....and sometimes thats all it takes.

Have a look at all of the PNP websites and the various options.
HTH a bit, best of luck.

Re: How did you get a job in Canada..?
Short(ish) version: Previous company had large customer base in North America, one of the very large ones being in the Toronto area. We really needed to be in the same timezone to fully support our clients, so we looked at opening a Canadian office. I was asked if I wanted to be technical manager in the new office, jumped at the chance, and came over as an intra-company transferee.
That was in 2003, and I'm now a Citizen, and working for another company, but am still pretty happy here.

I think you're confusing an Express Entry application (which results in PR and takes months) with a Temp Work Permit application (much quicker). Most people go over on TWP's first, and then apply for PR once in Canada. That would then mean you'd have the 600 points for a job offer to get picked from the EE pool.
Thanks to all for the advise, it's very much appreciated.

Re: How did you get a job in Canada..?
Short version for my husband: he got in touch with recruiters for banking while still in the UK, explained his situation (he was already PR), was looking to move to the Toronto area, and would be in Toronto in about 6 weeks' time for 2 weeks and would be available for meetings and interviews during those two weeks. During those two weeks he met with two banks, a total of 9 interviews, and 3 different recruitment firms. One of the banks offered him a job verbally in the time he was in Toronto, and he had it in writing about a month later, once some internal paperwork was sorted out.
For me, because my notice period with my previous job in the UK was 12 weeks, we decided we would wait until I had moved to Canada permanently to start applying for works, so I resigned my job in the UK without anything to move to in Canada. Once I had my move date I started contacting recruitment companies and said "I will be back in the Toronto area on x date, and available to start work immediately." I luckily started a job within 4 weeks of moving back.
Hope that helps!

I was lucky that I wanted to leave the UK when I did,as others have said things have changed now making it harder, along with the low oil prices.
I am in Alberta working as a concrete finisher,my employer had been advertising for around a year, that's why I called them.
My employer isn't even hiring Canadians or PR's now again due to the low oil prices affecting construction projects.
We are currently in the last stages of PR,hoping for that final email any day.

Re: How did you get a job in Canada..?
My husband had worked for a large HGV company in the UK and sent his C.V via email one night to the same company in canada, just with a covering letter stating his interest!
A few days later they called and arranged a Skype interview, he got offered the job there and then and then the company applied for provincial nomination! From date of submitting our SINP application to arriving in canada was around 6 months!
We have been in saskatchewan now for 4 months and settled brilliantly! Next step is to apply for our PR!
My advice from hearing other people's stories is to just send out your C.V to as many companies as possible (set up a canadian email address) and just don't give up!
Good luck and wish you all the best!

If you want a job offer, you need to do a lot more than just upload your resume on monster.ca and wait for people to call you. You need to look for job ads and contact people by email or by phone before you send them your CV. This is important because personal contact may help them remember you and actually look at your CV. You may send a lot of CV's without getting a response or you may get lucky and get an offer fast.

Re: How did you get a job in Canada..?
My husbands brother saw an ad in the mirror newspaper, replied to it and my husband, 2 brothers and dad were here literally a week later on twp'so. The wives and children begrudgingly followed, I wasn't all that interested but I'm really glad we came. My husband is now redseal, earning well into 6 figures for a job that paid £12 an hour in the uk, and our PR will be through by the end of the year. Reading about people's struggles to come here makes me realise how easy we had it, it was offered to us on a plate, we were few of the lucky ones.
Edited to add they are iron workers, a skilled trade that there is a shortage of here in Calgary.
