How can i get my pet rabbit from uk to Canada?
Hi all,
really would like some advice please,
Me and my wife are looking to move to Canada next year and we have a pet rabbit (Tink) who is 16 weeks old and we want to take her with us.
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to who and the best way to get her there?
We can fly from any airport in the UK but would like to fly into Calgary if possible.
We would also look at going by boat if that was the only way
My wife would like Tink in the cabin with us during the flight as we are not sure what it would be like for her in Cargo?
Any advice would be great and thank you in advance.

Can't recall anyone posting about transporting a rabbit in the cabin...there was one a while back about a parrot...

This may help, as a starting point:
Importing or Travelling with Pet Rabbits - Animals - Canadian Food Inspection Agency
AC Live for the shipment of pets and other live animals - Air Canada Cargo
Cats/dogs can travel in the cabin! (UK to Canada only)
Pets in the cabin - aircanada.com

You should contact the airline first to find out if a rabbit is acceptable.
All the online information I can find online by Googling, refers to small cats and small dogs.
You may be limited to certain flights, or have to use certain airports.
Then you would have to contact Canada Customs to find out the regulations for importing a rabbit into Canada

You may find only a limited number of airlines will transport a rabbit.
Air Transat for example will not. They only do dogs and cats.
British Airways will, as cargo, through a pet transport agent only.
Others may allow a rabbit as checked baggage, but I don't think any airlines from UK to Canada do.
You may have to go via a USA hub, which will add to the cost and difficulty.
Only Air Canada allows pets in the passenger compartment TO Canada from the UK iirc, BUT ONLY CATS AND DOGS.

Otherwise the same atmosphere as the cabin, as the hold shares pretty much the same air.

Nearly four years ago we brought our guinea pig. We used a pet transport company (expensive) and she travelled in the hold. She is no longer with us, but she lived for 2.5 years in Canada so I don't think the flight was to blame. Don't listen to the heartless b*******! It can be done.
We flew Air Canada btw.

I've literally tripped over rabbits walking around my house. Surely there should be some sort of immigration quota.

They are best spatchcocked and served with potatoes and beans by the way.
I'll get my coat....

Like others I see a number of options.
Wrapped in a flaky crust.
A visit to a taxidermist and you have a bunny forever, cheap to run and you can stuff it in your carry on.
Cryogenics, not proven, but worth a shot. If it fails, there is always the flaky crust option to save wasting it.
