Generally speaking Chester is an expensive location because of its picturesque houses and the ocean. Very popular with the yachting set. Like Mahone Bay. Where are you planning on working ? When you can establish that it will be easier to narrow down the choices.
Good luck on your reckie. Enjoy the time here.

Chester is a beautiful place to grow old. However it is more expensive than some places on the south shore and there is only limited work. You could comute to Halifax but it is a slow drive unless you are near a highway exit.

I agree with all of this.
I know someone who commutes to Halifax from Mahone Bay, but that's a real trek.
There are loads of places with great scenery much closer in, if that's where your job is. And you won't be paying 'tourist' prices that you would in Chester.

Thanks all! I think we would need to be near enough to Halifax to be in the best place to secure employment....

Hi,

we live in Simms Settlement (near Hubbards) which is about 10 minutes from Chester just off of exit 6 on Hwy 103.

Its a lovely area, both Chester and Hubbards, house prices drop off from the highs of Chester when you come towards Hubbards.

I work in Halifax, and find the commute no problem at all. It takes ~40 minutes, 15-20 minutes to get to Tantallon (exit 5) and then 20-25 minutes to get downtown depending on traffic. From Exit 5 to exit 6 there are hardly any cars on the road, and its a nice way to relax on the way home. A 40 minute commute in the UK is nothing like a 40 minute commute here!

We've lived here for 2.5 years, if you'd like any info on the area or would like to meet for a cup of tea just let me know.

Mat

Chester is beautiful, was there last weekend (make sure you visit the restaurant on the harbour, food excellent and prices good too considering it's waterfront location. Been there in the winter too and it's dead. Worth considering if you are living there all year round

We went a few times over the winter and found some shops / cafes open - including Tims. Really enjoyed walking around as the views of the water were great.

The Rope Loft? In an amazing coincidence, we had lunch there on Saturday.

Highly recommended.
