Default Houses in Canada

Hi all,

Is it just me or does anyone else also think the houses in Canada are just amazing? I mean we have looked at some HD videos on some estate agents websites in St Albert ,Edmonton, alberta and what you get for your money just seems unbelievable compared to similar price range here in the UK? Puts our recent house purchase to shame
We have been using Google Earth to look around Edmonton too which is outstanding to be able to view in such detail

Well, it's Edmonton. You'd get a much less amazing house in Vancouver for your money

Are you planning to move there?

I'm usually amazed that all that stands between me and fresh air is some 2x4's,gyproc,vapour barrier, insulation, 3/4" plywood, tyvec and some wooden siding. It all seems a bit, well, insubstantial compared to my 100 year old brick place back in the UK. It is easier to fix though.

To the OP, Houses in Canada are cheap where land is cheap and demand is low and expensive where land is expensive and demand is high. Rather like the UK. Or anywhere else for that matter,

Some houses are very lovely and some are cold and shed like. Newer houses are better insulated and less maintenance. I live in a 1970s house which has been " renovated " (badly upon closer inspection) and it is cold. And yes having a big house seems like a dream but you have to clean it, maintain it, cool it, heat it and dont forget the winters are long and cold. And yes I know UK has been hit hard this year but lets not harp on about that. Oh BTW most Canadians dont even want to live in Edmonton!!!!!!

Offices are in Edmonton, Ft. McMurray ,Manitoba or Vancouver so not much of a commute if we chose Edmonton as the Edmonton office is 23 minutes from Edmonton City Centre. I was looking at St Albert in Edmonton.

As already noted.....Edmonton is not a nice place, although yes, it is cheaper. Vancouver would be a much better choice and with a climate similar to the UK with better summers, beats the pants off Edmonton. Clagary is a few marks higher, but not by much.

But dreams of mcmansions would have to be put aside if one were to consider Vancity, given real estate prices.

fairynuff, just re-read your post, I haven't been to Edmonton, but I know a couple of folks who came from there and prefer Winnipeg. Vancouver is pretty expensive as you probably know. Are you visiting all of these places on your recce?
