Hotels in Halifax NS & Activating visas

We are landing in Halifax on April 2nd, to activate our visas, then spend a week or so checking out NB with the kids.

We have PR to live in NB, so this trip is to activate the visas, and decide for sure that this is definitely what we want to do. If so, then back to UK to sell up. If not, back to UK to devise a Plan B.

Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced hotel for family of 4 (kids will be 11 and 9), for the overnight stay in Halifax please? Clean and quiet is good.

Also, whilst I appreciate everyone has their own experience, what can we expect when dealing with immigration at Halifax? Any tips, or sage words of advice?

Many thanks in advance.

Jon

Are you renting a vehicle?
The airport is about a 40 minute drive to downtown Halifax 35 kms.

Allow at least 30 mins to 1 hour for processing of PR forms etc. You will need to supply a Canadian address for PR cards to be sent to.
Customs may have questions about Goods to follow lists.

I can recommend the Delta Barrington - central, quiet and nice.

HTH.

If you will be heading to NB why would you go into Halifax ? Why not rent a car at the airport and stay at one of the airport hotels or even in Truro. It will save you the trip into Halifax and back. The Super 8 in Truro is less than 45 minutes from the airport and is right on the highway. It is fairly new and would be less expensive that a downtown Halifax hotel. It also has a kids play area with an 80' water slide and a heated indoor pool. Your kids might really enjoy that after a long flight. There are also other hotels in Truro that you could easily check out on the net.
Enjoy your trip.

Hi Jon,
we landed in Halifax last year to activate our visas (going back out again this summer to open bank accounts etc).

Immigration at the airport was really good. We arrived quite late, and I had copies of everything (useful to have copies of goods to follow as they will want to copy these anyway.

Very pleasant experience and straightforward.

Any other info, get in touch

Sean:thumbsup:
