They sell proper UK Heinz beans at Meijer's in Detroit - but a rather pricey $2 (USD) a can - I don't miss them that much

Pork pies. Black pudding.

Please HELP

Does anyone know if these can be ordered on line in Alberta.. Some years ago, we were able to get Pork Pies from Superstore, in Grande Prairie.

We do know they can be had from the British Store in West Edmonton Mall. But not on line..

Our Homesick foods include. Fish and Chips, Bacon, Sausages, Cheese, Real cream, Good bread, Cheese and Onions crisps. Proper English Strawberries. New Potatoes, and Spring Cabbage..

Can't help you with pork pies or black pudding, but I have never had a problem getting any of the other things you mention, without recourse to an overpriced British imports shop - with the possible exception of cheese & onion crisps. I've gladly exchanged those (on the few occasions I'll admit to eating crisps at all...) for sour cream & onion which I prefer anyway.

Real cream? Not sure what you mean by that, but any supermarket will carry a selection. It doesn't have the same designation as in the UK (i.e. half, single, double, etc) but is sold by fat content. This isn't exhaustive but should help:

English name - typical fat content - Canadian name
Half cream - 12% - half and half
Single cream - 18% - table cream
whipping cream - 30% - whipping cream
double cream - >35% - heavy cream

"Proper" English strawberries (I assume by that you mean any older variety aside from "Elsanta") are available in season, the same way they are in the UK. If you buy strawberries in December, here or in the UK, they are most likely to be the Elsanta varietal which has a much firmer texture than the traditional summer berry, and the long shelf life necessary for importing from southern hemisphere (or California/Florida) growers.

We found Cream Crackers the other day in London Drugs. I have one very happy hubby........slightly more successful than the Christmas presents I got him

As for bread we have found that the in store baked french style bread (looks like a bloomer) tastes pretty good.

We found the other day that President's Choice flavoured water tastes very similar to squash back home - certainly more flavour than your normal flavoured waters....

Otherwise we make do with the powdered and frozen stuff - takes some getting used to, but don't really think about squash now after 4 months...

Darling son is missing Gadbury's milky buttons.

In-laws keep sending parcels full of them to keep him happy
