From my observations here, the fields which get the most generous vacation allowance seem to be;

Academic/Teaching
Health-care
Government / Public Service

At the other end of the scale Manufacturing seem to be stuck in the dark ages, and if you are a Dairy Farmer, then forget about holidays and weekends altogether!

That's farming for you. Still at least farmers only have to work half days!

Whats that then, 5 am to 8am and 6pm to 10pm? Farming is a vocation, not a job I suspect...it has to be in your blood.

Crop farmers on the praries get nice long holidays, or grim phases of inactivity, depending on whether the crop brought enough for a winter in Hawaii.

7 to 7 for us, or even a bit more on occasion.

Two different parties put in offers last night, expecting a third over the weekend. A bidding war would be nice, though we're close to what we'd like.

Thank you Steve and Butch. Moving on will give us a chance to do/see what we really emigrated here for. Canada's had our pound of flesh, it's time for some payback

BUT

I thought you enjoyed your own business???

OR

has this come about now that you are PRs and do EXACTLY what you want?

Running the business, building a house etc etc has been a big challenge and learning curve, and a generally positive experience, but it was always a means to an end - to be in Canada while we waited for PR to be processed. So, yes, now we're free to make our own choices and not be tied to the conditions of our WP's, it's the right opportunity to cash in and ease off from 80+ hr work weeks.
