Hi - remember me?
 

Just logged on here for the first time in about 2 years and its like visiting an old friend.

After joining BE and gaining PR back in 2011, I never used my visa as my husband and I separated. Oddly enough, he wouldn't move to Canada with me (it was always my dream) but went there alone after we split up.

Anyway after a while a way, it seems like that itch has come back again... don't think I'll ever get the chance or opportunity again but thought I would have a look and say Hi to old names and new people.

Hi Rubie, sorry to hear things didn't work out as you had hoped. Have you ruled out applying again altogether?

Maybe a long holiday in Canada might help to scratch that itch.

Any chance your PR status is still valid? You could always make a try yourself.

I remember you too - sorry to hear of your marital breakdown.

thanks for replying.

My 3 years after landing was up in June of this year and I've been looking into applying to see if the 3 yrs (forget how many days it is) thing could be waivered. I understand that there are circumstances under which this could happen.

It would be good to hear any stories where this has happened

Other than that, I will have to see if I am eligible again as a singleton.

Her PR wasn't tied to her husband tho surely? Once you have PR you have it in your own right? Work permits before PR can be tied to husbands job etc but once you have PR it's yours regardless of whether you split up. Correct me if I am wrong PMM. :)

Except if you never activated your PR in the first place ? In the olden days, successful PR applicants were issued a visa which conferred PR upon first entry.

From her posts it is implied she landed with her husband before moving over. And welcome back! :) :wave:

Once landed and a PR it's not tied to anyone, regardless of if you divorce (unless it was a conditional spousal PR).

The OP said in her 2nd post:
