Hi guys! update time...

Just thought i would touch base with you all as things are tough right now.

Yesterday i went to the local council office to try and get housing. I was refused housing. I had to pass a five stage test. well i passed four!
The last one was relatives in the area. I have aunts and uncles and i lived her for 15 years before i moved to canada.
They would not help me! crazy....

I am white British and i have lived in this country all my life until i moved to canada. Yet they will not help me. What is up with that?
I am not racist in any way but it deeply frustrates me when i see so many people being housed by local authority!

I have to look at private renting now. I will keep you all posted..

Ermmm would like to say how i feel about that but im sure it would offend others :p
My parents have been ill and unable to work. Initially it looked like we could of lost me mum but she seems to be on the road to recovery. SHe has had to go back to work ,to early in my opinion, as the could not get any help! what little savings they had have now been used up so there was no choice but for her to go back before she was ready so they could pay the mortgage.
on the other hand it was reported in the paper this week that EU members that come to work in England regardless of whether they bring their children with them will get child benefit for them......makes my blood boil

Were you not able to be put on the waiting list? My daughter used to work as a Housing Assistant for a local council and I know she said that there were long lists. She said it was hard at times telling people how long they would have to wait for accommodation. At present I am renting privately but I'm looking to go on the housing list for the future when I retire, and won't be able to afford private rent. It's hard enough to afford it now!

Incidentally I don't see what difference it makes as to whether a person is white or black british. I know black british people who have also lived here all their lives.

But if you are technically homeless, surely they must provide you with something?

Now i don't know if this is how it works but someone i knew had to go homeless before they would put you on the list. If you have family that you are staying with they will just expect you to stay there. You just have to lie and tell them that no-one will put you up.
If you tell them you have nowhere to live they put you in a Hostel type place which is a bit rough and i think they have a curfew in the evenings, (this girl was only young at the time so that might mean why they had a curfew for her, it might not apply to you).
Once an available place comes up they offer you the place but you can't refuse.
Someone else i knew had to find private housing and the DSS paid for the rent or part of it anyway. We have friends who used to rent their houses out to them, it was a good regular guaranteed income for them you see.

I would keep going back until they give you something. If the council can get away with not giving you anything they will.

My wife used to work in a college and she used to see a lot of young girls getting pregnant just to get a house because they didn't want to live at home anymore :scared: and it worked! It used to get her really mad at times especially when we were trying to save up for a deposit for our first house.

Good luck i'm sure something will come up :)

Any housing associations in your area that you are eligible for?

First of all i am sorry if i offended any one with my coments. I should not have put white british, i should have simply put british. Sorry!

I would also like to say that i passed four of the stages. One of which is homeless. I can get help with private rent so at least that is one thing. But the costs are rediculous.
I have now applied for a crisis loan to help with a deposit. That is expected with private rent. I remain positive and i know things will work out.

thanks guys
