No for Ontario you do not have to be working in Canada to be eligible. You don't need to use the TWP option that would be available to you once you receive nomination from them - the idea was that you would receive PR alot faster than if you went the FSW route - therefore not having to wait 12 - 18 months to get out here and start working for the employer.

Wow thank you for this, I think this would be the option for us to go then, ideally we would like to be in Canada in 10 months so around June/July 2012. Next step getting onto hubbys employer.

Also worthwhile to note is that out of Canada applications for PR based on PNP (i.e. sent to London Visa office) seem to be going through the system faster than those applications sent to Buffalo visa office from those already in Canada.

Yup - London generally have them processed in 8 months total - Buffalo drag their feet a little more!

Some other things to remember about the Ontario PNP program:
  • It is employer driven, so you'll have to coach the prospective employer in what to do. Put simply, imagine the first stage as being similar to applying for an LMO. However, the requirements regarding advertising etc don't apply.

      Thank you Wolstie, I have put all my research together to email to the employer, it seems relatively straight forward as long as they read through everything. Didn't know about the fee, but in all honestly, thats not too bad considering all the other costs.

      Great, point them in the direction of this:

      There are some requirements on the part of the employer though with regards to turnover etc (that I don't think would apply in a normal LMO application), so if it is a (for example) small family run company with not great revenue, they may struggle to get accepted.

      Thanks thats one of the links I've got ready and waiting. Even if this route isn't the way to go its a good start anyway.

      I started looking more in to this and have come to the following conclusion:
      Ontario PNP is the way to go.
      I still intend to study first. I really do want some kind of formal training. I might as well get it in Canada.
