I have got all my documents together except the police certificates which have been applied for.

1. Can we send off the application to Buffalo and then send the police certificates later?

2. I can not remember the house number of one of the addresses I lived at several years ago. Does this matter?

3. With the current points system I have 65 points not including the 8 demographic and the 10 personal suitability. With the proposed new system I have 76. If this is going to come into effect soon, would there be any advantage to waiting and having those extra points?

4. I understand that you require $10000 + $2000 per person, is there any advantage to showing that you have much more than this or are you just required to have this amount?

Thank you in advance for any answers.

George

Hi:

In reply:

1. Yes, you can submit your application without the police certificates. Later, when
you have your CIC file number, you can then forward you police certificates.

2. Indicate that you are not able to remember the house number.

3. Applications are assessed at the time they are submitted. If the law changes
while your application is being processed you will have the benefit of the old
legislation.

4. You must provide proof that you have settlement funds. The guideline is
$10,000 for the principal applicant and $2,000 per dependent. Obviously, the
more funds you have the less likely you will become a burden to Canada's
social welfare system.

Yours truly, Ingrid Y. Chen, B.A., LL.B.
