help for hubby on own in calgary

Hi my hubby is working in Calgary Airport as an electrician on an LMO and has been put up with a lovely irish family however they are charging him 400 dollars a week for a room (no tv) and providing his dinners however he feels akward and it is only short term however he really needs to find decent accomodation that isn't charging a fortune with easy commute to the airport. Can anyone help ? Does anyone even have a basement they could rent to him which would allow him more privacy etc. Thanks folks !

Don't have anything to rent to him but $400 for a room sounds ridiculous.

I pay $1800 for a two bed, modern flat next to an LRT in a nice area.

Kijiji and rentfaster are his best bets.

He's probably found the local girls, who love a British accent, so he won't be too lonely. I wouldn't worry too much.

$400 a week, for a single room is expensive, even by Calgary standards.

He should be able to get an apartment or basement for a bit less than that. As mentioned, kijiji and rent faster should have something, however, be aware that the rental market in a Calgary is very tough at present.

Also, there's a lot of scammers. They will usually say the are currently living elsewhere, ( the US is a favorite ) and will send you the keys to have a look if you send them a deposit. A good indicator is a house or apartment that is very cheap, or one that has previously been advertized and has dropped in price dramatically.

Just had a quick look on Kijiji at rooms for rent. There's a good selection for $500 and less a month, tv cable, internet etc.

Your husband is pretty much paying the families rent/ mortgage for their whole house.

I'm sure he will get something better quite quickly.

Look on Padmapper (www.padmapper.com) - there were lots of rental apartments (1-2 bedrooms) under $900 a month, probably even more if you increase the rental cost. You can also look at the street view so can get an idea of what the neighborhood is like.

:)

If you look at the attachment I posted, the airport is that big grey area, so yes, NE :)
