The containers we used to ship the German Sheperds in (air supply) were considered OK to fly out to Canada but not fly back with :( I still have both the wooden boxes we went with and the up graded plastic
airline approved boxes required).
We have 9 extra large boxes either plastic or wood available at cost?

Well honestly I am mind boggled from trying to calculate and re-calc the dogs sizes:blink: Initially when I googled it I came across a website that said to measure to the tops of their ears when their heads are up.....the result of that was that they needed "special" crates built for them, timber ones that air transat wont take.
anyway I looked up the IATA site and it is the top of the head you measure to which is better. they need 6cm? clearance to the top of head. length wise the giant crates seem fine.
my OH did come across a kit online for extending the heights of those plastic kennels, whether airtransat accept those or not is the question!
where are yours heading for in June, we hope to be going June too:fingerscrossed:

Its very hard to measure our squirmy dogs!! I haven't seen a crate extender, where did you see that? Our smallest GSD fits into the XL, our greyhound is a very small greyhound, but still incredibly long when measured the way the regulations state and would also need a giant crate, even though she NEVER lies like that, she always curls up into a tiny compact ball

We're heading over June 17th! Booked our 3 dogs and 1 cat onto Air Transat, Dublin-Toronto!

Hi Everybody

How do I work out the size of the crate needed for my dog? Has anybody got official calculations?

According to the John Humphris people I need a "giant" crate for my Golden Retriever!!!??? That's the largest they do so does that mean bigger dogs cannot travel?? It sounds huge but I want to make sure I get the right one! I thought I had it all sorted out until I actually tried to work it out!

Any advice badly needed please

Thanks :)

I see the crate extender on the transfur website but they dont seem to supply it. it is basically just timber through the joint to raise the lid by 2"....I assume then you get long bolts to go through.
you cat is probably a walk in the park compared to the dogs:)
the problem I think with the GSD is they can raise their heads quite high when they want to and then those big ears:nod:

I have a crate that is suitable for a large breed dog (Labrador, Colli, Boxer etc) here in Toronto (Mississauga) and am happy to sell it, so let me know if you are interested.
