help with bunac insurance
Hi, I have just been issued my work authorisation letter from bunac, however, Iam finding it difficult to find travel insurance that Bunac will accept. I feel the Bunac insurance is very expensive and I simply cant afford it. Has any one got an insurance company that Bunac will accept or any advice.
warm regards |

Re: help with bunac insurance
We used American Express. BUNAC accepted them straight away and even said they were reccommended, the winter sports add on was pretty cheap aswell.

Re: help with bunac insurance
Just out of curiosity, do you have their insurance requirements to hand by any chance?
I have requested them by email but they haven't replied yet. |
Re: help with bunac insurance
Hi,
I used Insure and go....i use them for all my travel insurance. it comes in quite a bit cheaper and covers all that BUNAC specify. they had absolutely no problem with me using them. If you have any doubts then you can email BUNAC the policy information and someone will look at it and confirm if it is sufficient. Hope that helps, Dunc |
Re: help with bunac insurance
Their documentation states that if you contact them then they will send you a requirements list which you can work with from there.
There is no way that it should cost the £450 which they quote though, they're clearly profiteering from it and aiming their services at gap year student toffs and their parents who clearly have more money than sense. |
Re: help with bunac insurance
my insure and go policy cost £135 and i think that was their 'gold package' which covers against everything for millions. It did the trick for me with Canada and Australian Visa's so should be OK for you.
I can remember thinking the same thing when i saw the price of the BUNAC policy, so i just started looking elsewhere straight away. Dunc |

Re: help with bunac insurance
Good thread! I hadn't checked this out yet, but that Bunac price is extremely steep. Any money I can save right now is going to be needed when I get there! :)
To the OP, how long did you have to wait from sending off the forms to getting your letter? |
Re: help with bunac insurance
Precisely, what you're doing there is exercising common sense and I think that is something which Bunac don't really expect from their participants.
From the looks of the introductory guide book, it's amazing that most people who need that kind of advice in life have managed to pass the age of 18 without falling foul of natural selection. |
Re: help with bunac insurance
Oh, my. I fear that I fell into that category of those who do not have quite the insight to find less expensive travel insurance for my BUNAC trip. I actually looked around, and somehow came to the conclusion that BUNAC's policy was the most cost efficient. And, I have to admit, I was quite wrong. Thank you to all of those who have provided advice and reference in this thread. You have helped me out, also.

Hmmm it was a couple of years ago and I think it was around 180 for the year and yes they were fine with it. Just email them with a link to the policy (whichever company you choose to go with) and ask them if they'll accept it before you purchase it.

Re: help with bunac insurance
I too used AMEX and had no trouble in them accepting it.
