Re: help!
Athletes and Coaches are on the list of Occupations under Pressure in British Columbia. That can be helpful in applying for a temporary work permit.
In most instances, pre-arranged employment is critical to gaining entry to Canada. I suggest you read the Wiki articles called Quick Job Hunting Instructions-Canada and Finding Job Opportunities-Canada. People who have participated in world class cultural and athletic activities can apply for permanent residence under the Self-Employed Persons category. I don't know the best place in Canada to train for cage fighting / mixed martial arts. I didn't know what it was, and had to do a Google search to get myself up to speed. That search brought up a March 2006 article that stated that cage fighting was banned in Ontario. So I guess that rules out Ontario. But the Finding Job Opportunities article, to which I gave you a link, will provide you with strategies for finding out where the job opportunities are. x |

Re: help!
sorry cant help with the job advice as not sure what that would come under... but just wanted to ay " good luck" and hope you manage to find something.
Sorry to read that some of the posts are belittling to what you do for a living - I'm sure if you had said you were a professional wrestler or boxer you may have got a better response - though to be honest given the holier than thou judgemental attitudes of many on here you'd have probably got a slating off someone even if you'd said you were Mother Theresa's stand in. welcome to the forum - lesson 1- ignore the morons good luck |

Well, no, I personally wouldnt have had a different opinion if he was a boxer or wrestler - they are still all examples of mindless violence along with cage fighting in my view. Of course lots of people will argue that it's different because its a "sport" but then technically so are bull fighting, dog fighting, and gladiators doing battle to the death in roman times. I personally find those kind of "sports" positively distasteful and seeing as on this forum everyone always feels free to express their opinions about every possible subject I didnt see why I should hold back on sharing mine too.

Not ideal I know, but with the right training etc... Seriously good luck with everything. Follow your dream, don't give up on it, we did, we are here, it's the BEST thing we have ever done in our lives. You'll find a way even if it's not clear, if you want it bad enough. |

Davey it all depends on what you call PRO ? (can you make a living out of it ?) If you are a fully dedicated fighter (and then some) and have the talent to make a living out of it (you picked a hard sport to do that in...but YOU should already know that) then there are "opportunities" in Canada ! This sport is dominated by the Yanks (a few Canadians and Brazilians out there though). Brits are a novelty but you have to thank Michael Bisping for getting us on the map ! It can be done but would require one hell of an effort mate ! Feel free to PM me and i will talk to some of my contacts (will need to know your experience, age, weight, fighting record, etc) Whatever you decide...good luck mate ! |
