Default Hello from Edmonton

Hi, new to the site and I had asked a few questions last week and thought I'd thank people for replying. Greatly appreciated. I'm currently working with some people that recently moved to the Edmonton Alberta area and she had directed me to this site after I asked her why she picked Edmonton to live at.
If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask, I've been here all my life and love to answer any question.

Thanks again.

Hi,
My husband and i are looking in to coming over to canada to live.We are eligable to get in to canada and we are in the process of looking at how easy/difficult it would be to find work, schools, a home etc.We can enter the country on my qualifications but my husband would need to find work to be the main bread winner. He has been working as a window fitter for the past 15 years and there is nothing about fitting windows, doors, conservatories that you can tell him. What we need to know is, is that an area of work that he could fill over there in alberta.Any advise would be great.

Hi Shelley,
Congrats on your decision to move to Canada. There is quite a demand for housing and construction in general. There is a serious shortage of trades people and especially knowledgable ones. It's funny you mentioned your husband is in the window business. We are having our windows and doors replaced November 1. I will be inquiring for you if you'd like on what type of shortages their industry is having. I'm positive they are in the same boat as the rest of Alberta, lack of work force.
In Alberta there are a record number of homes being built and because of our oilsands, they predict it will be like this for 5 to 8 years. Along with new home construction, there is a demand for people upgrading their homes, like we are doing. When we were getting quotes for our home, the time frame varied from 8 to 12 weeks before they could come get it done.
Hope that helps and if you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Hi,
Thank you so much for replying..thats good to hearIt would be great if you could find out some information to do with the window business, anything is a help at this early stage. My husband is very concerned that we would get there and he wouldnt be able to get a job, he has been a manual worker all his life and very much a traditional family guy in respect that he has always been the main provider of our family income. Also we have 3 children, 13, 11, and 5 (at the mo), my 11 yr old has aspergers syndrome (a social,
developmental and learning disorder) and he has a statement for school that enables him to go to a specialist school. We would be interested also if you had any advise on where there are these types of schools and the surrounding areas, we will have around $200,000 to buy a home with (im telling you this because maybe it will govern the areas we can afford). As a family we would love to be somewhere that is close enough for everything to be accessable but further enough away that the prices are not too hugh, suburbs i suppose. At the moment any advise you could give me on anything would be fantastic
Thanks again
Shellie

Hi caseguy,

Do you know what the IT market is like in Edmonton and in Alberta in general? From the jobs site it looks quite good.

Thanks

Same here, I work in It. I am an Enterprise Architect consultant, currently working for a large UK retailer (200 stores, £1.5BN turnover).

Whats that sort of market like it Edmonton?
