Hello and welcome.

We chose Canada. Australia was too far away and we wanted the distinct seasons plus be in a place where the generally like the Brits (not whinging Poms). Also my sister emigrated to Australia so I thought it would be good to have us spread to another continent as well:D

Hi there,
Have you been to either Canada or Oz? If not i would highly recommend a visit to both if you can. We are in the rather odd position of having our Australian PR visas but living and working in Canada on temp work permits!!! Basically we started the Oz visa process before visiting either, after visiting both we really loved Canada, got offered a job here and well here we are. We aren't long back from Oz to validate our visas and I have to say that it was great to be back here (although we haven't had our first winter here yet so that might change )
It can get really warm here in the summer if that helps :D
All the best with your decisions anyway,
Sinead

Hi sinead,
Yes weve been to both Canada many times and oz just the once, visited Fredericton last fall and i love it. My hubby is more worried about the winters and work in Canada which is why the oz bit came into it.
I'll keep working on him.
Thanks for taking the time to help us.

Hi Celine,

I think if you can get a job lined up here it is a great place to live, we haven't had a full winter here yet so that should be interesting!! My OH did have problems finding work (we came over through me getting a job) but he now has a job and he seems to be enjoying it which is good. Any more questions you have feel free to give me a shout

Hi Disenchanted

Just wanted to say hello and welcome from a fellow local. I am living just outside York and I work in York at the moment but, if all goes to plan, i am hoping to move to Canada (Nova Scotia) at some point in the near future.

Hope you decide and make it. :D

Hi Disenchanted

I am other side of York from you in Selby, but I work in York at the District Hospital (Medical Secretary). I have never been to Wilberfoss, but have heard of it - sounds like a nice place... :)

Ah Selby, I remember being on Flood duty there as a soldier back in the old days when the river banks burst and we had a winter of snow and ice.

I must dig out some old photos and scan them in. Pictures of furniture floating and me making a phone call from a public phone box waist deep in water. (yes it still worked).

Emmjay Oct 30th 2008 12:25 am

Re: hello

Hi Dave and Jules

No change then, Selby still floods every winter, only difference is now everyone has mobiles, so no phone boxes needed.
