Just to introduce myself, we're a family of three, me, partner Gail & daughter Maia (plus new arrival next month!) & are seriously thinking of a new life in Canada. I'm a solicitor based in Cardiff specialising in criminal law (I know I must be mad) but want to move to a country that we feel could be our new home.

We're a family of four moving to Canada next summer. Probably Nova Scotia but possibly Ontario. OH retires from South Wales Police beginning of August. I hope everything works out for you and your family.

Small world. My parents live in the Swansea Valley and my kids live with the ex in NW Swansea.

Welcome to all and would just like to say that when you move here just do your best to adapt to the Canadian lifestyle. I've seen people come over and expect to do exactly what they did back home. Why did they move then?

Well said. I do understand that some values and/or traditions from the old home helps in feeling grounded. I can understand missing certain foods (being Swedish, IKEA Sweden shop is a godsend) but unless you try to live the local lifestyle you will find it very hard to adapt.

Are you intending to practise law over here and, if so, have you researched this - it ain't for the light hearted and it is not a simple matter of passing the equivalent of the QLTT. Have a look here for starters and PM me if you require further info. I am going through the process at the moment.
