hedgehogs

So......yesterday we're downtown sorting out some car insurance.I decided to let OH jump through all the hoops whilst I sat in the reception area leafing through some reading material.Few pages into the Calgary Sun and there's an ad for a petshop somewhere in NE I think advertising, wait for it.......hedgehogs for sale!!!!!PMSL why oh why would anyone want a pet hedgehog?????.You can't take it for walks,it doesn't roll over or beg and god forbid you accidentally stand on it after a drink or two.$99.99 at that! If I'd known I'd have bought a whole suitcase of the spikey flea infested little critters. They are kinda cute though :)

It is bizarre innit? :D

Mind you, they sell pet snakes and pet spiders... hell, even fish (which since you dont really 'pet' them I find a bit of a loose definition of a pet!

Wierdest pet I ever encountered was my school mate who had a pet ferrett... cute as heck but a bloody slippey b*stard to try and catch to bring to the vets!

Oh actually no, another friend in Canada had a pet Iguana & some turtles... okay maybe I'm just not cut out for the 'exoctic pets' arena of things as I'm sure plenty of people out there appreciate the above *lol* :o

I saw a hedgehog tonight, wandering around the streets, bless him. I didn't realise they ran so fast, those buggers can move!

Lucky you! I saw a big bloody rat who I mistook for litter (brown paper bagish in shape from a distance) when I was walking to the post box last night... when the 'paper bag' started scuttling up the pavement, realised it wasn't in-animate litter as it had a long thick tail

I've lived here for almost 3 years and never once seen a rat... bit disturbing that the first sighting occured not 500 metres from my home just in front of the corner pub in the dark.

More unsettling, the little bugger (half the size of my friggin cat!) was STILL there on the way back and I had to stomp my feet to get the little sh*T to run away as I was only 2 steps away from it & it was still sniffling the ground.

How ANYONE can mistake a mouse for a rat is completely beyond imagination... never seen one (rat) in r/l before the other night but I sure as hell knew what it was when I saw it!

Probably running for dear life in case it gets swept up in a big hedgehog catching net and shipped over here to Calgary :)

Tell you what though, I lived in Montreal 16 years and never saw a live rat up close... start to wonder if the childrens story 'Pied Piper of Hamlet' had more basis in truth then I cared to consider as a child!

Rats will probably be more visible in the Uk over coming weeks if this bloody rain continues - it floods out their lovely homes and brings all the buggers to the surface - house next door but one always has a front garden full of them after heavy rains - truly delightful !! Have seen three this week, crossing the road - my road - minding their own business. :D
