Default health cover alberta

Hello everyone
Please can someone advise me. We are finally leaving the U.k. for Calgary area as PR's in Oct. (exciting & scary)I have read the wiki article about health care & have found out that I can obtain insurance via the post office for the purpose of emmigration. We are not keeping a U.K. address so can't use our normal travel insurance.
How long should I take the insurance out for, as I know we are covered in Alberta straight away for medical stuff, but is that only once we have applied & filled out the paperwork & paid the premium? ie. for the first few days we wont be covered.
Also the forms ask for proof of residency by utility bills etc. how can we do that if we haven't got a home?
What have others done?
Thanks again for advice

Hi...guess who!

Filling the form in takes 5 minutes and you just have to trot along to a particular building downtown, take a ticket and wait your turn (in our case, about 15 minutes). We were in and out in under half an hour. So maybe prioritise that as a task and do it on the first full day.

Will drop you a line with a suggestion re the address.
