Sharon I was looking at some in the stores over there last month, LCD'S and Plasma's. Similar prices too, (pound wise). |
Re: HD TV
Yes. There are several providers that provide a HD stream to your house via cable or satellite. It's much more developed in Canada than in the UK, they're about 3 years ahead of us on the HD deployment front.

Re: HD TV
Yes, you can watch all the crap which constitutes TV over here in even more detail.
Would be nice if there was something worth watching. |

What about the sports channels, movies, music, playing DVD's? Surely it's worth it for those four alone. Just like the UK, not all TV programs in Canada are crap, and just like I am here in the UK, I'll be selective.

Re: HD TV
I just got a lovely Pioneer Elite on Thursday, we only have an aerial though, couldn't be bothered paying anymore for cable. There's nowt in HD over the air in Canada afaik, luckily we can get US HD stuff.
I did find the picture quite nice, but then I found my Dad's crappy Freeview on LCD quite nice after a few years of NTSC watching here. So UK HD must be spectacular! |
Re: HD TV
We have both Plasma and LCD tvs. LDCs for the boys room (good for consoles) and 2 Panasonic plasmas for the living room and family room.
You have to subscribe to get HDTV or get it free when you subscribe to 6 packages. We use Bell ExpressVu and have 2 PVRs which means there are 2 tvs linked to each which can both watch different programmes and record separately. Each TV also works independently. PVRs are great for skipping the ads and pausing or rewinding live tv. Here are the HDTV channels available. The picture quality is fantastic and you certainly notice the difference compared to a non-HDTV channel. Movies in particular are fantastic quality. There is usually a special offer when you sign up. At the moment we pay $67 for full package which includes HDTV and movies free. Once our 6-month offer is up we will pay $123 per month which sounds like a lot but in the UK we paid around 60 GBP for 1 PVR (no HDTV). Sometimes, close-ups of people on HDTV can be scarey. Lovely Cat Deeley's eyelashes looks like a couple of big fat hairy spiders have landed on her eyelids and Simon Cowell's 'American' veneers are almost fluorescent white :rofl: |

Absolutely agree Steve, I guess it's choice. I am shipping my UK plasma and will be getting another over here for the basement family room. I guess mostly it will be DVD's as opposed to the cable or sat channels viewed. It's the endless adverts that get me even during movies.

Re: HD TV
In Vancouver and some other cities CBC and CTV broadcast HDTV over the air.The TV has to have a built in ATSC tuner(most do now) and in Vancouver you need to have a clear line of sight to the towers on Mnt Seymour.

Re: HD TV
I just bought 2 Samsung LCD's, 1x 40" & 1x 32" both are HD. They are now starting to sell HD TV's that can display 1080p (better quality than 1080i) so the prices are starting to come down.
I bought mine from www.futureshop.ca and collected from my local store. |
