Re: Having A Baby in Vancouver but Facing Hurdles!!!
Regardless of all the other points raised, you may well not be fit to fly at 32 weeks. Particularly as this is already problematic due to having to find accommodation and healthcare adding to the stress and worry.
If your husband's work commitments are such that he is willing to leave everything to the last minute, then you would be advised to stay where you are and not stress either yourself or the baby.
If you are immigrating, then your child will not be in Singapore at the time for conscription?? Or do you want to remain in Singapore?

Can your husband fly over now (I am avoiding suggesting that you do - the less hopping around the world the better!) If you register for MLS you have to wait 2 months and the rest of the month you registered for MLS (so max is 3 months).
If you husband signs up the family now you will be covered by December.
BTW: a similar topic was recently covered in Brits2Vancouver group (see my sig for the link) by a chap from London coming over with a job offer and his family (including pregnant wife).
All the very best

gintonic,
You can find a GP from the College Of Physicians link below.
Click on the 'I have read and accept this Disclaimer part'
City-type Vancouver
Specialty -highlight General Practice (including CCFP-Family Practice)
Then tick on the Accepting New Patients box
You need a GP in order to have a referral to a OB/GYN.
Bring your prenatal records from S'pore with you.
I am afraid you have to come here in Vancouver to be seen
and examined by the GP.
https://www.cpsbc.ca/cps/physician_directory/search.do
We have good standard of maternity care in Vancouver .
St. Paul's Hospital gives excellent maternity care,I think you shouldn't worry
about having your baby there.I heard good things about the maternity unit.
I work at St.Paul's Hospital but in a different department.
Women's hospital is specialised in high risk pregnancies.
If you fit the criteria, I am sure your GP and OB/GYN
would have you delivered your baby there.
Good thing you have relatives here, hopefully they can look around
for a GP for you. Good luck.

Re: Having A Baby in Vancouver but Facing Hurdles!!!
I understand the OP's point. Is there not somewhere (does it actually have to be Vancouver, could it it not just be a n other province?) that will take you in when you are willing to pay for it (be it health cover or cash)? There must be private hospitals or similar set ups that are used to people paying for any medical services or procedures? Never looked into this to be honest. Are you hoping for a section this time around or not? Can't you just 'book one in' somewhere !??
By this stage, I understand your stress! You won't enjoy this pregnancy if this continues ! Good luck

John Webb is the first doctor in North America to successfully
perform a new procedure for heart valve replacement percutaneous
aortic valve implantation. I asked around today at work and people
talked highly of Dr.Webb. Your dad is being treated by one the best
cardiologist in the world
Wishing your dad speedy recovery

Re: Having A Baby in Vancouver but Facing Hurdles!!!
hi yoong! thanks for your kind assurance and if you are working at st paul's i believe that you are in the best position to comment on st paul's. the good thing is that the apartment we have booked is just a few blocks away from st paul's, being on alberni street so at least proximity is on our side!! my cousin in vancouver is making attempts to get me a family physician taking new patients and fix me an appointment so hopefully i can clear one hurdle after another. i actually got to speak to someone (an italian lady in customer service at st paul's) and she was exceedingly reassuring and told me all i had to do was to come to BC, get a doc referral to st paul's and my woes are over. i voiced my concern that my baby is due during christmastime and actual EDD is on new year's eve and whether will there be any difficulty getting medical attention and she assured me that at the hospital, it will be as usual, christmas or not. she tried to transfer me to the accounts dept but i got disconnected in the process. i just wanted to know if st paul's hospital has a policy that accepts only BC health insurance like BC women's or can i use my existing health insurance from the france to pay for the fees incurred? do you know of any obgynae working in st paul's that i can request for if they are taking new patients? once again, thanks for your help...
St.Paul's accepts private health insurance policy and BC health insurance.
Ask your cousin to call the accounts dept at St. Paul's to enquire
about your French health insurance.
I hope you can make the trip back here and get connected with a GP.
There are so many docs. on the mat. floor that it is hard to tell who is good.
By joining the prenatal classes ,you can gather alot of info.
about the docs. and midwives from other new mums.

Good luck .

Re: Having A Baby in Vancouver but Facing Hurdles!!!
hi yoong, i am now in vancouver! i have seen a family doc and he is referring me to dr matthew garrey or dr robert dale steele as i have chosen to give birth in st paul's hospital. i visited the hospital last friday and i like the environment very much compared to BC women's. would u have any info on these obstetricians in terms of their experience? unfortunately, i have yet to get a date to see either as dr steele is on holiday and there is no date given yet by dr garrey's office. which one should i pick? incidentally, the chaplain working at st paul's called ashok happens to be the brother of our church's missions pastor in singapore! do drop me a line at [email protected] if u can, thanks very very much!!!
Wonderful news that you are back on track.
