been here in canada now 8wks love the country here and the people are fantastic and so friendly,but im in a job as a truck driver i hate,my family have just arrived in canada and our house in the uk is rented now for the next year. i want to leave my job but have noticed on my visa i am tied to the company im working for,my partner her visa lets her work for anyone.i came over on a lmo with this company and just wondering can i work for anyone one els if i find someone with a lmo? as if me and my family go ack to uk.. we go back to nothing!! so any info would be great.just dont no what to do now for my familys sake. if we stay i cant get work if we go back we got no where to live..

You'd need a new LMO, thats how a temporary work permit works, its only good for that job with that company in that location. Once you get the LMO you need to get a new TWP.

Did no one explain that to you at the time?


Accompanying spouses get "open" work permits.


Have you run into the usual temporary resident credit roadblocks yet? That used to piss me off no end when I was on a TWP way back when.

Yeah, if you want to work elsewhere you will have to find another company who is willing to do the paperwork to get you another Labour Market Opinion, so you can go down to the border and get another work permit.

Sounds like a bad case of lack of research on your part, firstly on the trucking company secondly on all your options/rules regarding working/TWP here and thirdly on trucking North America style. Which province are you in? ( me guessing AB) and which company ( me guessing H&R). What do you hate about this job ?
