Re: hand luggage
yes. Our hand luggage was over 9 kilos so they made us take out the excess, which we did and then once we were round the corner, we put it back in the bags. It didn't make much sense really.

Re: hand luggage
We didn't because we got the weight down to 5 kilos by removing the excess. The excess was put back in later so as far as Air Transat were concerned, our bags weighed 5 kilos.

so you took them out, held them in your hands and pockets, and then walked around the corner, out of site, and put them back in the bag.

Re: hand luggage
If hand baggage is over weight, you won't be able to take it into the cabin, it will have to be checked. Whether you have to pay extra depends on how much baggage you already have checked. If your allowance is two bags and you have only one checked, no extra, if you already have two, there is an extra charge.
As much as the cost of transporting over weight baggage, there is the safety issue in the cabin. Airlines will be clamping down far more on weight and size limits for baggage in the futures. When carriers are cutting down on the amount of cutlery they carry, you can bet tight restrictions on baggage will follow.

Flew with AT 3 weeks ago and they were really fussy - they weighed our hand luggage - the flight wasnt even full!
if struggling ring in advance and ask for sporting goods ie fishing rods - they dont actually check what is in the bag.... and they dont weigh it!

I took 50lbs of frozen fish back to the UK as checked plus all my other luggage and no one said nothing. It was still frozen when I got home. Of course it wasn't one of those airlines that ask for a whip round for airplane petrol.
