Re: Halifax
Looks a lovely sunny house. I'm sure you will sell soon.
Ours is going on the market after Christmas (we still have a couple of jobs to do on it after summer hols this year). A nerve racking time but by the time our house is for sale you will be in Canada already - lucky thing! |
Re: Halifax
Well you have to be at work given the time!!
And dont count those chickens - we may well be still on the market when you have sold yours!! Slow market and few people needing such a large property - sheesh! |
Re: Halifax
Hi Poppy2
Sending you positive vibes for a speedy sale. We are also on the market and waiting to get out to Halifax. We're looking to be out there sometime in Sept. I know you wanted to hear more about our recent trip so I'll PM you later tonight when I'm out of work. Can't overstate how FAB Halifax and NS are though. |
Re: Halifax
All you folks are going to be out there ahead of me. You should be a mine of information by the time I get there next summer.

That looks a lovely house. Are you sure you want to sell it???? Lots of room thats for sure. Will you ship all your furniture as well? |
Re: Halifax
Corky - between you and me, its a monster to heat and always needing something doing, we want it gone now!! We have renovated it from a shell with no doors, floors or even light switches. Never again!! Yes we will be taking all our furniture with us, it would be cheaper than trying to replace it. Obviously some stuff wont be coming, but the main pieces will. We have had a quote for a 40foot container to Halifax = $12,000 NZD (about $9,000CAD) and the 20foot one was $8,500 NZD (about $7,000CAD). I am sure we spent around that (the first) for a 20ft to get out from the UK to NZ forst time round!
I am hyjacking again!! Anyway, any offers on the house will be considered!!! |
Re: Halifax
I mentioned above that my ex is going to Halifax to look at the tall ships. She's leaving Friday morning and, I'd guess, will arrive late Saturday. She hasn't organised anywhere to stay and will be looking for something cheap; a motel rather than the Lord Nelson. She has a car. Any ideas?

I did a quick search on Expedia.ca and it looks like most hotels have really hiked up their prices during the Tall Ship Challenge if there is any availability at all. The Comfort Inn Halifax (really closer to Bedford rather than Halifax) and Lakeview Inn & Suites both look to have rooms at around the $130/night level. Both are a few miles to the harbourfront so you would have to drive.

Try the Traveler's Motel or the Esquire Motel, both on the Bedford Highway. Clean and functional, but a bit 70's design still in the bathrooms. Really comfy beds though, and cheap.

Re: Halifax
Thanks for all the suggestions. The ex runs an organic food co-op, one of her customers lives in a place called Lower Sackville and has offered a room for the week, so she's set.
By process of elimination I guess the daughter must be on the Appledore V: http://www.tallshipsnovascotia.com/s...ils.aspx?id=28 she said she's sailing on a lazy boat, no need to go aloft to furl, and I know she joined the ship in Detroit; that one sails out of Michigan. She said that before setting out for Halifax they sailed around for a couple of weeks with bunches of kids from juvey (tall ship funding is nearly always connected with undertaking social initiatives) all of whom wore hip-hop clothing and had to be issued with lines to keep their pants up. She went ashore on Kelleys Island with a bunch of them who had never been out of metro Detroit. The wind came up and capsized their dory so they couldn't get back to the ship and were stranded overnight. That was a panic because Kelleys Island is in Ohio and they weren't supposed to take the passengers out of state. Sounds like another typical summer, she'll appear for the obligatory overnight visit before starting school again, deeply tanned, full of exciting stories and flat broke. I think I once said I aspired to be jealous of my children. This is the ship she started on : http://www.tallshipsnovascotia.com/s...ils.aspx?id=37 I've been out to the end of the yard in calm weather in the Toronto harbour and have some respect for people who do that on Lake Superior or on the ocean. |
