Countries with tight gun laws have lower gun crime. Fact. The problem with America is that they have gone beyond the point of no return- there are simply too many guns, and no amount of gun control imposed now will make a significant difference. Illegal gun owners wont care, and legal gun owners will kick off royally if they are forced to hand them in. More guns is not the answer. Crime, and gun crimes have DROPPED! Just because you don't like firearms does NOT mean that you are right, like it or lump it more legal firearms does NOT mean more crime or firearm related crimes! This falls back to the Education is better than ignorance as EVERYTIME there is a shooting the anti's crawl out of the woodwork screaming for a ban on legally owned firearms, wether those firearms are legal or not. Look how fast the mass stabbings in Calgary disappeared,or the mass stabbings in those 2 malls. http://www.sunnewsnetwork.ca/video/3608104196001 http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/201...un-myths-shot/ People have a tendancy to fear what they do not understand(or like),sad but true. We could say lets ban sports cars as they are designed to go faster than the speed limit which is illegal couldn't we? Lets ban radar detectors as only a criminal breaking the speed limit law needs a radar detector right? |

This man could easily be as dangerous with a frying pan. And while on the run he could stay nourished from having a nice fry-up. |

They've arrested the suspect with him apparently saying "I'm done."
Now the tax payer gets to spend millions of dollars on a court case and keeping him in custody for the rest of his life. An unmarked grave would have been much better value. |
Re: Gunman on the loose - Moncton
I thought for sure this would end in "suicide by cop". Rather surprised it didn't, in the end, but glad it was a peaceful resolution.

Let's hope it's a long long time until the next one.

No doubt some inmates will treat him like a "hero" :frown:
Perhaps his assigned pysch can prescribe him a full frontal lobe lobotomy?

If he's actually diagnosed as having an illness then I hope he gets the help he needs. But with everything that's been found on his facebook, and how cold and calculated this whole thing has appeared to be (specifically targeting cops, not just going on a shooting spree, and then successfully hiding for 30 hours) I'm guessing it was all calculated.
PS- i'm not suggesting he was mentally ill- i dont know either way- but in most of these cases, it's a very difficult argument to show that there wasnt some kind of mental deficiency. Rational, sane people, dont usually go on shooting sprees. Crazy people do. |
Re: Gunman on the loose - Moncton
Really glad this is over and it wasn't a death by cop situation!
Just to add my twopenneth worth into the guns debate- I think the main problem with America is that they don't have free healthcare, specifically mental healthcare, and people simply cannot afford it privately. It's the disturbed people that go into schools and cinemas with guns ablazing, or shoot their mothers because there is a price on mental health that families just cannot afford if they are not blessed with health insurance one way or another. Of course there are those that should be in institutions or at least seeing a professional who don't in countries with mental healthcare available for all, as is evident in this case, but the same can be said for Raoul Moat, etc, there will be always anomalties but I think this particular problem makes a drastic difference. |

Show concrete data over time from a wider sample before running your mouth and lecturing others. |

But yeh maybe a good lawyer could go for the mental angle and have him out back into society in just a few years. Under a new name of course. |
