Gunman on the loose - Moncton

Re: Gunman on the loose - Moncton
Humans on the other hand......
Show me one single instance when a firearm has killed someone in a fit of rage!
Exactly you can't as its an object, again guns don't kill people, people do!
Not sure of storage laws in America, but here it must be stored in a locked room with no windows,or a gun cabinet,or be trigger locked!
Will banning firearms take them out of the hands of drug dealers, terrorists, gangs, other criminals?
No it won't as criminals do not abide by the law!
What about farmers,or bush workers? Do they not deserve to be able to protect themselves from wildlife?
Firearms have plenty of uses, they deter criminals that is a FACT like it or not and is a proven FACT,why else do the police carry them? Why do the military carry them? Why are crime rates where firearms are legal lower than areas with firearm bans?
Even the chief of Edmonton police on a radio show the other night when asked about banning firearms after Moncton said why do that?
Why punish law abiding citizens because of one person or because of illegal firearms.
There are plenty of illegal cars out there are there not, with plenty of illegal drivers, more people are killed each year in car related deaths than firearm deaths are they not?
What about the petrol bombings in Asia on public buses? A petrol bomb will kill way more people,is easier to obtain, requires no license etc..
And again what about the Calgary stabbings,or the mass stabbings in the 2 malls in Canada this year? Do you want to ban knives too,or is it just firearms that you have an aversion towards?

There is a list here that shows gun ownership, homicide by guns etc. There are an estimater 270,000,000 million guns in the US, just under 10,000,000 in Canada and 3.4 million in the UK.

And I would say that claiming that guns kill people is ignorance, they are inanimate objects, tools incapable of inflicting death.

Gun laws are far stricteer in the UK, and gun crime is much lower. The Homicide rate in the three countries show the USA to be worse, then Canadaa and the UK to be lowest.

Do you accept that those committing gun crime in the UK do not possess weapons legally?

Re: Gunman on the loose - Moncton
In what way are the guns laws far stricter in the UK than in Canada. Gun ownership is far less in the UK, but it isn't that difficult to acquire shotguns or target shooting weapons in the UK.

Why worry about me JamesM?
The Edmonton CFO was not worried about me when he issued my PAL,my missus isn't worried about me or she would not have signed my application.
I took the liberty of Googling some info for you to save your fingers the effort, seeing as the kids let me get a whole 3 hours sleep after nightshift.

The United Kingdom has one of the lowest rates of gun homicides in the world. There were 0.04 recorded intentional homicides committed with a firearm per 100,000 inhabitants in 2010. Gun homicides accounted for 2.4% of all homicides in the year 2009.

I do get a bit fed up when trying to get through to people who just can't help but blame firearms for everything that goes wrong in the world, yet say nothing when something else has been used.
A good example is that more people have died through knife crime,or car accidents this year than firearms, yet its the "Firearms are EVIL" that comes up EVERY time.
As a responsible,LAW ABIDING firearms owner, yes it does get thin and piss me off,why should I have to defend my pastime any time a firearm(usually illegal) is used in a crime?

Whereas the purpose of a gun is to be fired and when it's used precisely for that purpose rather than A DIFFERENT ONE that's when injury or death is the result.

Just one example. If hobbyists weren't allowed guns there would be no sports/gun shops.
The one here that was broken into three times in a few weeks with guns and ammo stolen, wouldn't have had guns and ammo stolen. So those guns and ammo would not be in the wrong hands.
