Grocery deilivery help.

Hi all just struggling a little with getting a grocery shop delivered to an Airbnb we will be staying in.

it’s in cochrane, AB 11th of October we will have to self isolate for 2 weeks and I’m trying people like Safeway, Walmart, save on foods and save on foods cochrane appear to do deliver but when I try to make and account or add items it appears to know my location then says unable to load page.

How did everyone else do this during Covid.

Re: Grocery deilivery help.

Do you mean it recognises where you are right now (not Cochrane) and therefore 'thinks' something is amiss? Maybe try with a VPN (to disguise that) just to get the account established?

Re: Grocery deilivery help.

Wal-Mart you need to use instacart if its available in that area.

Checking some postal codes on Save On website for Cochrane, some come up as being within the delivery zone, and some of the postal codes did not, so seems it will depend what postal code your in.

As far as I know Safeway doesn't offer online anything shopping wise.

Re: Grocery deilivery help.

Not sure if Sobey’s or Longo’s supermarkets are in your area. If so they are excellent as they do their own deliveries. The goods are taken direct from the warehouse, as opposed to InstaCart who use shoppers to go around the store. I will no longer use any store that uses InstaCart...the service we have had has been dreadful.

Hmmmm bit of a mare this is turning into the VPN worked well thanks. But no longos and there is a sobeys but it’s a liquor store only 😂😂. Safeway don’t deliver Walmart won’t deliver and Mrsgrocery.com look like a Calgary based firm. I might email them to check

The OP said he'd tried Safeway in Cochrane.

Safeway is owned by Sobeys, BUT they do not do online shopping. You can shop in a Safeway and they will then deliver what you have personally bought but do not do the shopping for you. This is what Safeway has always done.

But surely this is far too early to be ordering for October??? Could that be a reason for not getting a response?

People here use Walmart, Canadian Superstore, or the local Western chain Supervalue. I don' know about Loblaw's or President's Choices stores

It is definitely Too far in advance to be ordering for October but I’m trying to find who delivers to our Airbnb for our 2 week quarantine in cochrane. I’m just trying to find a supermarket then add food to the basket and then see if they deliver to the postcode for let’s say tomorrow or the next day or a week in advance I’ve tried a few options.
mans nothing as of yet I was just asking incase someone had used a service I hadn’t come across or could suggest something else.
I will keep trying different things.

In tiny sleepy Cochrane, I guess most people did curbside pickup. Also, we were still able to visit grocery stores.

Anyway. It seems your only options are private third party businesses offering grocery services up there. Expect to get hosed on fees and markups.

We live in a village/small town and noone online will deliver but the local supermarkets have their own system. Try contacting them direct

Also find the local Facebook page. Someone may be happy to help you out and pick up and deliver your shopping

I think she was talking about the actual Loblaws branded stores, the ones that actually say Loblaws on the sign, where Super Store is owned by Loblaws its not marketed at Loblaws Super Store, like Loblaws City Market is.

as JSmith posted ......... they trade under their separate names, at least here and in the Atlantic provinces.

Unless you know, then it is not clear how linked the stores are ............. and that usually means noticing the stores that carry the PC brands, including Shoppers Drug Mart!

"Loblaws" trade under the following names .................. Loblaws, Zehrs, Your Independent Grocer, Provigo, Atlantic Superstore, Fortinos, Dominion, Independent City Market, Valu-mart, ARZ Bakery, Wholesale Club, T&T Supermarket, Real Canadian Liquorstore, Real Canadian Superstore, No Frills, Maxi, Extra Foods and Shoppers Drug Mart.

Not all of them trade across Canada ............... I know that we have Loblaws, T&T, Real Canadian Superstore and Shoppers here in Vancouver, but there may be one or 2 more that I haven't come across

No Frills and Independent are also in Vancouver, although these are Loblaws brands, but the stores are franchises, where Super Store and Shoppers are not franchises, Loblaws has too many brands lol

As Bats said, try the local Facebook group for Cochrane, AB. Likely there will be a kind soul locally who would pick up and delivery your groceries for you.

Locally here, we have a Facebook-like group called Nextdoor, loads of do-gooders on there offering to pick up groceries for those who can't (I am doing some do-gooding on there myself as an occasional 'expenses only' handyman).

That sounds like you are punishing the store for poor service from instacart.

So for you instacart doesn't conjure up this image then ;)

For the OP and anyone else looking in, an alternative opinion - Instacart has been very, very good here. I don't like that most of the food items are priced higher than the store price but signing up for the monthly membership fee can save an awful lot on delivery fees if you use the service regularly.

IC service will boil down largely the shopper doing it, and the stores stock at the time the shopper is there.

IC has lost a lot of good people either from being booted off, or people giving up because the pay has gone down so much, IC has been cutting the base pay more and more, and people are not tipping enough to make up for it which doesn't help, but it can vary greatly neighborhood to neighborhood as well.

Re: Grocery deilivery help.

Save on foods don’t deliver to the postcode I supplied which was a bummer. I contacted a few other places and grocerylink don’t serve cochrane and never have they said.

I was certain they did but nope. Never mind though as the airbnb we are renting for the month said that they will help us out and pickup and deliver our groceries to the Airbnb for free. Several hours passed my wife came and helped me up off of the floor after reading the message. Did I mention I also offered money for fuel time they use and they declined 😧😮

thank you all though I really did think I was stuffed. I already can’t wait for the 2 weeks to be over and we’re not there yet 😂😂😂
they should do airport testing.

I have certainly seen that outside the big metropolitan areas, this sort of 'helping people out' is far more widespread than I ever saw in the UK. Pretty common here for someone with a snowblower to just go and clear an neighbour driveway without asking or expecting recompense - I saw that several times last winter and started to do it myself. I even had someone in the drive through line ahead of me at the Timmies pay for my order (didn't know I looked like that much of a charity case!!).

if they are daft enough to use IC...then I will order my groceries from the stores that don’t use them. I am not implying that I will not go into shop said store to shop...but I’m sure you know that...you were just twisting my words.

Not been here long but IMHO Canadians accept crap service far to readily.

My experience and opinion is precisely the opposite! I cringe at the poor service now when we go back to the UK for a visit!

I find Canadian service at businesses slightly below what I was used to in the US, service there does tend to be better due to competitive pressures. Canada just has too little competition in a variety of industries so there isn't really a competitive pressure to change.
