Just getting organised for daughters grade eight grad this week! It's pretty much like the others are saying (though I think it's a bit much for grade eight) Money, money, money!

Haaaaaa - funny you should mention that name - specially today.

I was looking at the car insurance thread earlier (the one with the talk about lumberjacks and the potential danger of swinging their choppers about ;) ), and I was going to post how we were quoted a silly $900 per annum premium for a Porche Cayenne S by one broker, and a whopping $12,000 by another (both with same company - go figure  ), but I got distracted elsewhere (probably by Biiiinks e-spank) :D

(But no - we don't own a Porsche, dahling (I wish), it was just an 'inquiry') :D

My daughter graduated last year from high school, I think the total for her gorgeous gown(on sale from Fairweather, West Ed), shoes, hair and a teeny bit of very simple bling came to around $200! Her thoughts were that it is insane to spent a ridiculous amount of money on such an event. But I do know that some girls spent $500 or more on their dress alone, so I guess it depends on the individual. Less is more ;)

Yes, but we were not talking about graduation from HIGH school. I understand that IS a big deal here, but these were grade 8/9 grads, ie junior high or whatever the equivalent is.

And as for Kindergarten graduation!! Caps and gowns???? what??!!!!! PFFFFFTTTT!!!!

Is that fuss made in Alberta too??

Oh well, we didn't. And lil lad didn't seem to mind.

It's his birthday today (15), and we haven't even got him a card..... I did find a card we forgot to send home at Easter. I had to cross out "It's Easter Nana!" and write "Happy Birthday Ian!" on the front. I couldn't even find an envelope. :(

Luckly he thought it was very funny! :D

Yep sorry my mistake...
I think you will find whether it be kindergarten or junior high there are some that go totally over the top and some that keep it fairly reasonable, that is what we found anyway. We do know of some people that went totally over the top with a kindergarten grad too.

We're taking him shopping for a guitar this avo ..... he wants to go to Montana's so he gets to wear the birthday buffalo hat this evening! (He's easily amused!) :D

Just have to get them not interested in all that blah blah popularity crap.

1 out of 4 wants all of the Glitz but unfortunately for her it's not what she wants they we spend our money on. She wont be getting the ball gown until she's 18 and paying for it herself.

Just refer to the dog who has a leg problem and needs $4,000 for a new hip.
soon cuts the cost down.

Try picking a kids charity and asking them whats more important helping someone survive or a new frock...

you'll findout about your child
